Friends -- I lost several trees this winter which are now cut into rounds waiting to be split. My neighbor has a cool hydraulic splitter pictured here:

I checked my junk box and I have nothing in 3/8" but you can get the
correct one direct from sears:

if you are averse to going through sears, most reasonable HW stores
have knobs in stock.

Seems like a gear shift knob from a manual transmission car would work splendidly. An auto parts store or maybe the automotive swap meet that takes place periodically at the Expo Center? Or a U-Pull-It or your local automotive wrecking yard?

Thanks for all of the good advice. I'd forgotten that as a Craftsman tool that there is some support.

My original image was good enough to get the model number.

Unfortunately they show the ram (21) as a single unit, thought this was the first time I got an idea how big the broken knob had been.

Recognizing that it is an automotive dimension was key. Thanks for that. I'll check the auto parts store next time I'm in.

Is there a chance that 3/8 pipe has an ID close enough to make a handle?
