Howdy,
For March, 2010, we are moving our meeting to Thursday at the normal
location. We are combining our meeting this month with a group trying
to establish a Makerspace in the Dallas area. You can read a little
about them at:
http://www.dallasmakerspace.com

Our meeting will be held at the offices of CompanyDallas.
http://www.companydallas.com/

The date is moved up one day from our normal day. It will be held on
Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7 PM. The outside doors to the building
lock at 7 PM. When someone arrives with a cell phone, we will put that
phone number on a piece of paper by the door. Then, you can call us to
come let you in.
Details of our group are at: http://embeddedworkshop.org/

Good day,
Ralph Green, Jr.

I have a class that I want to send some people from. They have no
experience is that ok? It is my UNT New Media 2 class on robotics. I
will also try to make it myself.

Howdy,
How soon do you need to know? I sent out this notice last night after
being told the Makerspace group would be joining us. One of our
members, who is the contact with the Makerspace group is at a memorial
service today for his father. So, this afternoon, he tells us the
Makerspace group will wait to meet us next week. I think they are doing
this to be sensitive to him, but there are other who can handle the
meeting. Now, I don't know what to announce. I will try to get back to
you later today. We would love to have you come join us. I am sorry
for the confusion, and I may have told you more than you really wanted
to know.
Good day,
Ralph

Just to clear up any confusion, Dallas Makerspace has been meeting at
XMax in Lakewood every Thursday and the Mar 11 meeting will be there
as well. We were invited to use the Company Dallas offices for this
week's meeting and initially agreed but Mike, who invited us and who
we understood needed to be present in order for us to gain access to
the space, had a family emergency come up. So after an email exchange,
we decided the best plan was to revert to our previous location. I
wasn't aware any other groups had planned to be at the C|D meeting
with us until I saw an email someone forwarded to me this morning.
Unfortunately, we've already sent out announcements to various mailing
lists noting the XMax location, so we're committed at this point.
Sorry for the confusion! Maybe we can try a joint meeting at C|D next
week? This week's presentation is on restoring vintage cameras anyway,
so maybe not a lot of cross over with embedded computing. We can plan
a presentation geared more toward embedded stuff next time if there is
some interest.

Howdy,
Well, as it turns out, I am glad I sent that message to the dorkbot
list after all. When I sent my announcement of the joint meeting, I
thought we were meeting together. Thank you for sending this to the
list to clarify where the Makerspace group is meeting. I wish we had
met together this week, as there are some thing that would have worked
out better this week. There would have been no problem with that joint
meeting, but these things happen. So, let's just move on. I am sure we
will work out something in the near future. I'll be talking to other
Embedded Workshop participants and we will see how soon that can be. As
you comment, the vintage camera project would not have been as good a
project for the joint meeting as some other things, as interesting as it
may be.
Part of the problem is that the Embedded Workshop does not have good 2
way communications at the moment. So, I will have to seek out the
people I know how to contact and that may take some time. We will get
it, though and I need to try to get everyone signed up to a good mailing
list, like dorkbotdfw uses. I think I am beginning to ramble, so I'll
stop for now.
Have a great meeting this week at Makerspace,
Ralph

Howdy,
The plans have changed. We will still be holding a joint meeting
with the Dallas Makerspace folks, but not this week. We will work
out the details on that and announce them after confirming with both
groups. This week, the meeting will be informal and we will just be
demonstrating and helping each other out with any problems. I do
have one interesting device to show. It is a combination of a
wireless access point and a voip device. It is a prototype of what
will be called a Mesh Potato. The project that created it is
called Village Telco and you can see more details at
http://villagetelco.org/
Since we already announced that we were moving it to Thursday, we
will keep that date for this month. That will be less confusing
and safer for anyone who misses this message.
