Hey it has been a long time and we have lost the venue but is there
any interest in a meeting? I have been teaching too much to wrangle
y'all up, but anyone want to show off their idea, toy, gizmo, art,
etc.? Let me know. I seek out a venue. Please understand classes
start tuesday for me so I may be a bit hard to get a hold of.

I'm in. If it's a small group of up to 10 or 12, I can volunteer my place. Or we can make it a project meeting as I have an assortment of tools and toys including a 60watt laser cutter setup as a model DIY workshop for a business I'm planning.

Ill go to any meeting! The first dorkbot was so fun! Im working on a
few projects, mostly audio/synth stuff, but nothing yet to actually
present. If a meeting were set up Im sure I could bring someone as
well.

Actually the DIY workshop is probably a great place, both for you
commercially as you will now have a bunch of drooling customers and
probably big enough we can get some projectors and demos going. I am
free this semester on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Any better than
the others for people?

How about February 20th? I am out of town the week before and by then
I'll have convinced my kinetic/interactive students to come.

Howdy,
Most Saturdays are bad for me. Friday, Feb 12 is bad, but other
Fridays are good. Any Sunday is good.
Good day,
Ralph

Meeting at Mike's? Yea!

Sundays, usually OK

I need help getting my interactive voodoo doll modified from the
Switchcraft book project to work. Still learning how to use my

Does anybody have a use for discarded DirectTV equipment? Gotta be
SOME electronics that can be salvaged...

Also, have an old G3 MAC (hard disk cleaned but with OS), and several
CRT monitors available that I can bring to distribute.

To clarify, it's a model (as in model home) of the DIY workshop we aim to build. It's still a functional workshop that we use for our own projects, but it's not insured for public use. As a club member or friend, we can let others make use of it, though we may opt to operate some machines on your behalf. Hopefully the real thing will come about soon, but it's going to take a while to raise the funds we need. In the meantime, we will continue to host club meetings and operate a design/build shop in our current space.

Someone could build a long range point-to-point wifi connection with the dish. :-) You might be able to sell the access cards on Ebay for... testing...

The Dallas Area Networking Group (DANG) Monthly Social is same day,
same building, 9th floor. Can I invite a few of them to come see what
us dorky artists are up to?

Sure! Always happy to show off our toys. :-)

Speaking of which, exhibited we showed off some of our work at PartyFest today... a convention for event planners, caterers, entertainers, etc.

Just a reminder that the next Dorkbot meeting is this Saturday, 2/20, 2:00-5:00pm.

1409 S. Lamar St., 75215
Loft #845

The building is called Southside on Lamar, it's a big red brick building that used to be a Sears warehouse. You can park in the front lot, or the side lot labelled "Retail parking." In those lots you may ignore the 2hr posted limit. You may park at the meters on the street subject to the posted times and limits. There is a police station across the street, so those are enforced! There are "pay the box" lots across the street and to the side of the building. These are owned by the complex so if you need to park there, you can ask at the front desk for a free parking pass for the day.

My cell: 817-915-8185

We will supply drinks, feel free to bring some snacks to share.

Bring projects to show off, and projects you want to work on. We'll start with show & tell on projects, and then have a free form work/chat session. We have a small, well equipped workshop with a variety of tools (Saws must be used by us for liability reasons.) We also have a vinyl sign cutter and a 60watt laser cutter. (If you want to cut something on either of those, please contact me in advance for details on how to make the file. The more prep we can do in advance, the more likely there will be time to run the job once you're here.)

enjoy. I apologize but I have to go to this meeting as it has to deal
with a large conference I am taking part in.

I guess I was almost the only one that showed up, its a shame a lot of
the previous dorkbotters didn't show.

I was utterly amazed.

For all the times I've read on Make or BoingBoing or Hackaday about
having community Maker spaces / tool clubs in 'cool' cities and wished
there was anything like that in Dallas - it was very inspiring to see
the work space these guys have set up. Laser cutter, plastic working
tools, wood shop gear, hardware all impressively organized and labeled
- this was NOT your grandpa's dusty garage shop. These guys are
looking to be as accessible to traditional artists as well as
nerdy-makers so they have all sorts of neat toys and slick projects
theyve already produced all about.

It seems like they have some interesting leads on setting up a larger
location with even more tools and capabilities and have what seems
like a range of promising business plans that would allow people
access to useful tools with either classes or a subscription.

Its a bit under the radar now (given how impressive it already is) but
they are kind of waiting until they have their new location nailed
down before rolling out any PR to the various nerd-blogs and news
outlets. As of right now they consider their setup just a prototype
of a work space but I gotta say I was ready to start working tonight!

so from me A++++, Would attend again and again.

Howdy,
I am glad to hear that the equipment shown was interesting. I said at
the beginning that I could not make it on the date picked. I hope we
can try it again and maybe do it a different time. For me, a Friday
evening or Sunday afternoon or evening would work well.
Have a great day,

does the new solidworks engine have a scanning plugin? before you had
to go through geomagic or some other scanning software.
