Hi folks!
It's nearly time for @party 2013.
Our presenter
schedule will be finalized shortly. This year’s topics include
electronic instrument design, the Gesture Recognition Toolkit, a 3D
printing pen, n-body methods, Gameduino, different approaches to data
visualization, discussion of IBM’s PCjr, and color correction or optical
illusions achieved with programmable lighting, among others.
@party
is a demoparty, an event where attendees collaborate as well as enter
their creations (some of which are created beforehand, some of which are
created at the party) in a variety of competitions. Demos are
realtime-rendered noninteractive demonstrations of coding, musical, and
artistic prowess. They are central to the demoscene, a computer art
subculture most active in Europe which emerged in the mid-1980s. People
participating in the demoscene include programmers, visual artists and
designers, animators, musicians, game developers, composers, electrical
engineers, and makers.
Our
competitions include freestyle, executable, and oldschool graphics and
music, overhead projector, games, demos, and wild (anything goes - bring
your machining, robotics, and electronics projects).
Some of you may have heard about @party or the demoscene through events run by CEMI Electronic Media Institute.
First
prize in our demo compo is a mathematical sculpture by Bathsheba
Grossman, who creates her work using computer-aided design techniques
and 3D printing in various metals.
@party 2013 is sponsored by the MIT Game Lab and will take place in the Stata Center at MIT from June 14-16, 2013.
Registration closes June 10th, 2013. Tickets are free to MIT students, faculty, and staff.
