Does anybody know anyone who works at iRobot?
I would like to get some inside information about the company.

I have a friend from high school who is working there - his name is Tim Angle and he has one arm.  If you contact me directly I'll see if I can gather his contact info - although I might only have it on facebook.

Justin:

Thank you very much for the offer.

I should first do some more research on iRobot.
I'll get back to you.

Take care - Jim

So why do we need to know ur friend has one arm?  Is his disability somehow relevant?????

Hi all,

I'm stepping in on this thread with my moderator hat on. This is
starting to rapidly devolve into an off-topic thread.

Please keep it to people doing strange stuff with electricity.

Also, please keep in mind that there are hundreds of people on the
dorkbot-boston list, many of whom aren't as interested in lots of
email from dorkbot.

We've talked about splitting up the list into an unmoderated
discussion list and announcement only list which will finally be
happening in the next couple weeks.

Until then, no need to post one-liner "thanks" or "Gee Willikers!" to
the list. We'll be moderating those more tightly out of the queue
from now on.

(stories, questions / answers, and announcements are all still
welcome, of course)

thanks!
David

Bonjour,
it looks like Google wave  coming in the near future will be very useful for our group communication.

"Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation
and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more."

Ehh... not so sure. The first sentence really sums up my experience with it. It is for real-time communication and collaboration, neither of which are important for the dorkbot mailing list.

Some people work on group projects, for which it could be very useful.

But the mailing list as a whole is not used as a centralized
coordination point for group projects. It is more announcements/casual
discussion/random questions, which is better served using traditional
email than Google Wave.

David,

I am getting deluged with messages from this group and while I'm interested
in important messages I'm afraid I must ask to be removed due to the volume
of this back and forth messaging.

You can remove yourself from the mailing list at:
http://groups.google.com/group/dorkbotboston
It's bad form to ask the moderator to do it for you.

Hey - I didn't mean to make a lampoon of the issue, he is an excellent man and I am quite proud of him for the work he has done to overcome his disability, and advance the field of medical robotics.

I was at the Goodwill main store in Roxbury this past week and they had 4 robots there, all Roomba's and one Scooba (never even heard of that before). I did not see any of the other components, like a charging station, just the main bot. Not sure how much they were selling for or what was wrong with them-- my guess $10-$20.

This might be my first email to the group. Thought some people might be interested.

Goodluck,

  ~ Alex

PS. Captain hook was more interesting because of the hook...? He was afraid of clocks though... robots?

Thanks, Michael. I got the invite, will try it out, and try to generate
some reports...
