Dorchester Historical Society

invites you to tour the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate

To mark the birthday of Dorchester’s own Edward Everett, DHS will host a tour of Dorchester’s newest establishment, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate, at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 17.

Edward Everett served in the United States Senate from March 4, 1853 until June 1, 1854. His extensive career in public service included ten years as a member of the House of Representatives, four years as governor of Massachusetts, four years as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, and briefly, U.S. Secretary of State. Everett was the preeminent orator of his time. While most of us can recall Lincoln’s words at the dedication of the soldier’s cemetery at Gettysburg in 1863, it was Edward Everett who was keynote speaker at the event. The Edward M. Kennedy Institute features a full-scale reproduction of the U.S. Senate Chamber and Senator Kennedy’s Washington office. Visitors become "senators in training" while learning about the Senate through the use of interactive technology. The museum is suitable for children 10 and older and adults of all ages. Please join us as one of Dorchester’s oldest institutions pays a visit to its newest. DHS has arranged for an exclusive guided tour for its members and has secured a group rate of $8 per person (regular admission is $14). Meet at the Institute at 1 p.m. at the DHS check-in table. You must arrive on time to participate in the guided tour. Bring your family and friends.Use the order form below to pay by credit card or enclose a check.
