Departure day comes with anticipation and the high of the unknown is in full effect. The nervousness kicks in and you are stepping into the point of no return. You have planned for months, have every detail outlined, and now it is just that age old saying, one foot in front of the other. Everyone is full of energy, invincible, talking of what lies ahead, and knowing nothing can get in our way. This is "Day One" in a nut shell

Connections: The most recent incarnations [at least at the time of their debuts] of a long line of heroes (Aang is/was the most recent Avatar incarnation, and BOTW Link is the most recent incarnation of Link) in a world with many different groups of people. Both were very highly respected and were regarded as one of the best warriors of the land, with an official title granted to them (Aang was known as the Avatar, and Link was known as the Hylian Champion), but went missing during sudden catastrophes (the Hundred Year and the Great Calamity, respectively) that resulted in the deaths of countless people, including the complete massacre of one of the groups, which they are considered to be the last of (Aang was the Last Airbender and Link was the last Hylian Knight). Both were part of a team of 6 that were constantly battling the evil forces (Team Avatar and the Champions, respectively), with more people joining their team and helping them along the way (AOC Link only). Both "awaken" and return 100 years later into a post-apocalyptic and war-torn world, and immediately began to slowly return peace to the land and uniting the people, then eventually facing off against and defeating the leaders of the apocalypse (Firelord Ozai and Calamity Ganon, respectively) [I know Ozai didn't start the Hundred Year's War, but he was in charge when Aang was around]. Also, both became capable of drawing power from others from the past (past Avatars and the Four Champions, respectively). Both also won the hearts of a princess of their world's water people (Katara and Mipha, respectively). In addition, both were initially enemies with a powerful guy in red who had some sort of elemental manipulation and directly worked for the evil leaders (Prince Zuko and Master Kohga, respectively), before being pursued by the evil leader's second in command that became obsessed with killing them (Azula and Astor, respectively) and forced to flee with another fan-favorite character of their respective fanbases renowned for their skill (Uncle Iroh and Sooga, respectively) and joined their sides in their fight against evil (The last sentence of this applies to AOC Link only).

Thoughts on alternatives: As I already said, Trunks vs Lucina is bad, Crono is worse, Shulk is somehow even worse, and Cable is - actually, scratch the last part. Cable is actually a pretty good opponent for Trunks, but he doesn't need to return after his episode. For Silver, Axl is meh but far from the worst, Mewtwo is why, and Tatsumaki is probably the worst out of the bunch.

Brown-haired, laid back and encouraging teenage protagonists of their respected series (one of them in Jaden's case), with their character first debuting in the mid-2000's (Original Ben 10 in 2005, and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX in 2004). They're considered to be one of best, if not the best of the second generations of plumbers/duelists, with both protagonists using mechanical devices around their left wrists to bring out a multitude of different heroes covering all shapes and sizes (Ben using the Omnitrix, and later on the Omnimatrix, to transform into different alien heroes while Jaden uses a Duel Disk, and later on the Academy Duel Disk, to summon out different Elemental HERO's, some of which are aliens). They also switch between two different catchphrases between activating their devices and using them for transforming/summoning (Ben says either "It's Hero Time" or "Going Hero" while Jaden say either "Get Your Game On" or "Let's Throw Down", with their formers being more iconic). Both have similar themed heroes, like fire (Heatblast and Burstinatrix), soundwaves (Echo Echo and Aqua Dolphin), electric titans (Shocksquatch and Thunder Giant) and many more. Even cosmic beings of identical, muscular figures, immense power and the true aces of their heroes (Alien X in Ben's case, and Elemental HERO Neos in Jaden's). Both have trouble understanding how to use their aces at first, but they understood their downsides and found work arounds to maximize their potential (Ben needed to convince Bellicus and Serena to do anything with Alien X, which can take thousands of years for them to agree on something and make Alien X motionless during then, but he bypassed that limitation in Omniverse. Jaden was left in a confused state as to why Neos went back to his deck in his third round with Aster, not knowing that Neos Fusions return to the deck at the end of the turn, but got hang of it by then end of the same duel). Both underwent identical character developments. Starting off as inexperienced children just doing the things they love doing with their abilities, to more responsible teenagers that aren't as "at 'em" as they use too, to going back to their original personalities with more understandings of when to take things seriously. Their adventures took them to different worlds and different dimensions, where they were the only ones capable of stopping dark forces from controlling and/or destroying their world, and even the universe and multiverse at times. At least one of their adventures even began with events within the past that they were technically a part of before they even became to be, which influenced a powerful being to become one of the series' main antagonists (Ben when he travelled back into the past and came across Young Vilgax, who saw the capabilities of Ben with the Omnitrix and was the reason as to why he was driven to acquire the Omnitrix from the beginning for his army, causing him to become the recurring Main Antagonist for the series, and Jaden in a previous life - soon to be the Supreme King - was best friends with Yubel, who volunteered to become his guardian as Jaden developed his abilities with the Gentle Darkness from his previous life to his reincarnation to his eventual memory loss of Yubel where they/she (depending if your going with the SUB or DUB) set out to reunite them, which caused Yubel to become the Main Antagonist for Season 3 of GX). Depending on the point in the series, both Ben (in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien) and Jaden wore black shirts with blue-ish trousers with a jacket in a colour that resembles their character in a way, which is also noticeable on their mechanical devices (Ben's being Green in reference to the alien theme of his series, and is also the light on his Omnitrix when usable, and Jaden's being Red in reference to his dorm in duel academy, as well as some colour textures on his duel disk [though this is only apparent in GX Season 4 and Bonds Beyond Time). Their rivals have similar roles to them as rivals. Kevin Levin and Chazz Princeton are black haired and black clothed rivals with - at one point at least - similar abilities, which act more to them as anti-heroes. Kevin Levin and Zane Truesdale are the black clothed rivals that are good with something mechanical (Kevin is a mechanic while Zane is a Cyber Dragon Duellist), that often helps the protagonists by getting them to understand certain situations they tend to get into are way over their head. They've also been pulled out of their groups more than once. Albedo and Chazz Princeton are rivals with grudges towards the protagonist with similar, if not different, capabilities. Finally, Albedo and Aster Phoenix's arsenal is identical to Ben and Jaden's respectfully, just with a massive twist that separates them from their protagonists. Jaden also has some connections with Ben's future counterparts. Ben 10,000 (Classic series) grew up to be absolutely serious with no time for playing around or hanging out with his friends and/or family, but a blast from the past - in the form of Kid Ben - came and made him change his way, which changed him into a responsible man who can kick back and have fun every once in a while (Just like with Jaden, just with Yugi instead of his younger self). Ultimate Ben (Ultimate Alien) eventually access abilities within himself that wasn't accessible until a certain part of his life, that being magic for him being 1/4 Anodite, and eventually could use his alien's abilities without transforming (Like Jaden who couldn't access the full power of the Gentle Darkness, until he was fused together with the Supreme King and Yubel, and can access abilities without needing to summon a monster). Finally, Ben 10K (Omniverse) has the ability to merge his aliens together, like what Jaden can do with his Elemental HERO's, though Ben did have accidental access to this in an early episode of the series.
