to Door 100-Mile Food Challenge Forum
Somewhere I posted my personal parameters for the 100MFC which are as
close to 100% of foods sourced locally as possible. I exclude things
like pectin, yeast and other leavening agents. Here are some
additions to my original post:
When traveling outside of the boundaries of the Door County 100-mile
Food Challenge, I am not attempting to eat 100 % locally, neither
bringing food from Door County (except for a lunch on a day trip), nor
seeking food local to the place where I will be staying. The logical
extension of the Door County food challenge would be to do the latter,
but the amount of research necessary to assure a balanced diet, and
the necessity of eating from stockpiled food supplies are prohibiting
factors.
I did visit two of my children in Madison in early September and
enjoyed visiting and purchasing from the farmers’ market on Capitol
Square. I noticed that there were a number of commodities available
there which are not available at the Door County markets, but could
be. Things like wheat berries, popping corn, and edible flowers are
some of these items.
