With the retirement of 1e, I find myself saddened that there was never an NPC Codex made to included non-base classes. I was wondering, however, if a. someone had went ahead and made a non-base class codex (whether in the community or a 3pp), and, failing that b. if there would be interest in making one.
Anyhow, thanks, y'all.
I know it's something I'd certainly be interested in, though I cannot speak for the people at large. AUC.register('auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay'); AjaxBusy.register('masked', 'busy', 'auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay', null, null) Dale McCoy Jr Jon Brazer Enterprises Feb 2, 2020, 08:49 pm I just realized from the phrasing of my question that I'm left confused. Is it the monster book that you're more interested in, or the NPC book, or both?
As as long as I'm dreaming, NPCs using some of the prestige classes would also be great. Less of a direct use for me, but I always enjoy seeing NPCs with interesting builds, rather than simply "Sorcerer 12" or whatnot.
I would like a G.I.Joe style team, consisting of different classes (with various archetypes) in one organization with some type of theme. Countries, race or other factors like environment. 100 classes throughout Pathfinder. Paizo and Third party of course.
Is this possible? I don't know. But it's my dream. Unlimited action figures!
Interesting. It's a black box with the question in an orange box. It's at the bottom of the post. Heck, give me a few moments and I'll move it to the top, right after the picture and title before the text of the post.Edit: it's moved.
It would be great if someone else could try it and verify whether it's just me or a broader issue. Since the link is buried in this thread, maybe you could post a new thread dedicated to your poll? That would get you more responses and hopefully sort out this issue.
I "usually" have more monsters than I need especially with the template options. But interesting NPC builds take time and I tend to run urban campaigns where they come up quite often. I can never get enough of those although I do like building them myself but quite often I don't have the time during prep.
I use the hybrid and base classes a great deal and having them along with a mix of archetypes and prestige class would be nice to spin up and mod as needed in a campaign via a codex would be a great resource.
I'm actually building the NPCs in Hero Lab. So I'll have the file available somehow. Exactly how, I'm not sure yet. Occult Adventures? That's next week's poll on my site. AUC.register('auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay'); AjaxBusy.register('masked', 'busy', 'auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay', null, null) Dr. Johnny Fever Feb 10, 2020, 05:34 pm Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber Nice...looking forward to that
I gotta say I'm looking forward to the possibilities of these products. One question and a request, if I may, is this going to be available as a hard copy? And if so, what are the chances it will be available in the Pocket Edition size? I may be the only one, but I prefer the smaller size.
Also, since I can't seem to view the polls on Dale's website, I'll mention that while I'd love to see both books, an expanded NPC Codex would be more useful to me. I have all the Bestiaries to work with for monsters, but not so deluged with options for NPCs.
Good day all, I posted a blog post this morning about the upcoming Book of Beasts: Character Codex Subscription. Read all about it and vote in the poll. If you are interested, let your voice be heard.
Like we said in the blog post, we're limiting our books APG, UM, and the ACG. If this is successful, well look at OA for the next book. AUC.register('auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay'); AjaxBusy.register('masked', 'busy', 'auc_MessageboardPostRowDisplay', null, null) J. A. Feb 18, 2020, 06:53 am I missed that restriction. Sadly, the psychic and mesmerist are two of the classes I'd most be interested in having NPCs for. Apart from the hunter and slayer, I don't do much with the ACG. Just my input.
Well, you're in luck with the hunter and oracle. The hunter is currently tied for first and the oracle is holding its own. I am in the midst of running a Greyhawk Campaign on PBP and we are now in the middle of U1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh and I can see where I could easily drop a few of these in has NPC's as we move forward in the campaign world. The Corsair Chaplain and the Cult Initiate are two that I will be using. My plan is to have us work through U1 to U3) and then on to A1 to A4 (Slave Lords). This will be a nice addition to reinvigorating those classic modules with some new NPC's and encounters.
I have a list of builds using the Agent of the Grave prestige class. A lot of the builds on the list do not have every feat filled out, most don't have races assigned to them, they exist to be adapted as needed.
A perfect example of this is the Dirge Bard I had written down. It takes 10 levels in Dirge Bard before you qualify for Agent of the Grave... so I had the loose outline for a Dirge Bard-10/Agent of the Grave-5 on my list. Later, I discovered a monster called the Masked Murderer... a Ghoul Dirge Bard-8... how perfect. Now my Dirge Bard/Agent of the Grave is a Ghoul and the Masked Murder has 15 class levels instead of 8... a match made in heaven.
I have lots of lists, of similar concepts... android lich robot army... pirates... gestalted classes matching racial archetypes... gestalted classes offering full BAB all good saves and 9th level casting...
Gotta have fun NPC's, and have fun making NPC's... they are what you get to play with, so they might as well have fun abilities. I use NPC's as a way to explore classes/concepts I will never get a chance to play as a character in a game.
On the tabletop, Pathfinder Teams consist of at least 5 but up to 10 Pathfinder models. A unit of Pathfinders is a Fast Attack choice. Pathfinder Teams have the option to be accompanied by 2 Tactical Drones and/or an MB3 Recon Drone and up to 2 of the following: MV31 Pulse Accelerator Drone and/or MV33 Grav-Inhibitor Drone.
The pathfinder drone squads are almost better than the pathfinders themselves, especially in any list that wants lots of Saviour Protocols. They work out almost as cost-effective as pure shield drones in this role but they actually have a bit of utility on the table while they are still there.
Really the only problem with Pathfinders in the game is dirt-cheap mortars. If mortars were not so cheap and ubiquitous then Pathfinders would be a really neat and useful option in many lists. Against opposition other than Imperial soup they can use their pre-game move to finesse the range and line of sight of cheap anti-infantry options, forcing the opponent to choose between ignoring them or using expensive long-range weapons on them that might be better used elsewhere.
This unit was hurt by rule of 3. You would want to have multiple MSU of them so redundancy is sufficient. Now you must be supper careful with them. Your opponent will likely kill them in first turn, since Markerlights are so crucial for tau.
That same squad of 6 pathfinders would go down to 2 hits if it had to move into position. Something the fire sight marksman is more resistant to as it has the character protections and with a targeting resolution of 1 I can wait on the one guy who had to move to hit a target with 4 marker lights.
If I buy a devil fish for the pathfinders they have to disembark, lose cost efficiency, hit worse and am probably not as resilient as a character. I like to put the pathfinders when I take them behind a building out of line of sight. If I go first I vanguard move them into sight lines if I go second I have them chill out in relative safety to keep their points efficiency.
Siktempora, Hatred
CR 18 NE Outsider (extraplanar)
This creature appears as adistorted humanoid, its skin missing and exposing its tendons and bones. It hasoversized hands and feet, and one joint too many in its legs. Its face is ablank mask, except for a single livid scar. Cords of strange blue materialemerge from its hands.
A hatredsiktempora can form cords of pure hate from its hands, using them likewhips and garrotes. A creature grabbed by a hatred siktempora has the breathmagically forced from its lungs, and a hatred siktempora may have two foesgrabbed at once, the better to savor the panic in the second when the firstbegins to suffocate. Although they havethe supernatural mobility of other siktempora, a hatred siktempora often losesitself to bloodlust, fighting until slain instead of fleeing a losing battle.
I agree with you that the Astral Plane or Dimension of Dreams would make more sense for the siktemporas, and wholeheartedly support moving them there for home games. I kept the official Paizo flavor text for siktempora origins for this conversion. The Watsonian explanation of why siktempora are in the Dimension of Time is as follows (quoted from Bestiary 3)
