I can play the old doom.for.android.1.33.666 version on my phone. But
it's impossible to switch weapons. the prboom 4 android versions do
not install at all. I would just like to be able to switch weapons.
Then it would be fully playable. If you could fix this or tell me how
I can fix it, I'd appreciate it thanks.

They should install just fine. You may need to uninstall the
doom.for.android and then install PrBoom4Android.

When I try to install any of the prboom versions I get a parsing
error. I'm not sure if this is due to the version of android on my
phone or if it's because it is a HVGA not a WVGA phone. Just as a
side note I did uninstall doom.for.android first.

It does require Android 2.2 and up, so perhaps that is the issue.

It is an older phone and has android 2.1 on it. I'm a little leery
about upgrading it myself. I still have replacement coverage, which
I'm sure doesn't include bricking my phone. And about four months
before I can switch phones/carrier.

I looked into the requirements of some of the code being used and I
believe I am able to lower the required Android version. I've done
this in the latest release http://prboom4android.googlecode.com/files/PrBoom4Android_1.3.0.apk.
See if you are able to install 1.3.0-beta and play the game.

Wow, works great. I just played it a little to see if all the on
screen controls work. I will be testing more extensively for sure
(lol). I'll let you know if I find any bugs.
