The producers of "Don't Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy
Fairbairn", cordially invite you to attend this film fundraiser.
"Don't Mess with Bill" examines the shifts and changes in the
lesbian community from the 1950's to today. Through interviews with
Dorothy and her friends, we will hear the virtually untold stories of
Minnesota lesbian history.
With a very small number of lesbian elders willing to discuss their
lives, "Don't Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy Fairbairn"
offers a rare opportunity to understand the lessons of the past and to
witness the struggles of the lesbian elders in today's world
In order to preserve the stories of the GLBT members of "the greatest
generation", YOUR support is vital. Just as our nation has recently
recognized how vitally important it is to talk with the World War II
straight population about their experience before they die, it is just
as important to obtain oral histories from our GLBT elders before we
lose them.
"Don't Mess with Bill" is already feeling the impact of this
loss. Ian Robertson, Dorothy's childhood friend and former lover of
famed dancer Rudolph Nureyev, died January 2, 2006. While he was able
to contribute to this project prior to his death, many participants may
pass before funding is secured. The urgency is real.
Everyone is welcome and dress is casual. Please show your support for
this project.
Before "gay marriage". Before stonewall. When "out" was outlawed. Don't
Mess with Bill: The Story of Dorothy Fairbairn. How much GLBT history
do you know?
