It's been a while since there's been an active
anti-war/peace coalition in Colorado.
Last week, Martha Turnbull, Kathy Tolman and I met
to talk about the possibility of getting another coalition going. Some functions
could be:
- sharing information
- sharing/coordinating strategies or
actions
- acting together on particular campaigns or
issues
- pressuring our senators/congresspeople
- other ideas?
We're facing:
- a runaway military budget built into the structure
of our economy
- three wars or more, depending on how you
count
- about 50% of federal income taxes going to past
and present military expenditures
- between 700 and 800 military U.S. bases in 63
countries
- the presence of US military personnel in 156
countries
- cuts in domestic spending and safety net programs,
including Medicare and Social Security
If you're group is working on
anti-war/anti-militarism/peace and might want to be part of a Colorado
coalition, could you please send me your name, organization and as much contact
info as possible (email, phone, web page, etc.). Also please send info on what
you're doing on this issue.
Many thanks.
