Join the national campaign and state-wide day of action to stop the Korea trade deal in its tracks. While the U.S. - Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is good for corporations and Wall Street, Main Street will once again be left behind. The Korea FTA will put 3.5 million U.S. jobs at risk during a time of record high unemployment. Powerful interests like the Chamber of Commerce and greedy multinational corporations are already lobbying members of Congress. Now more than ever Congress must hear from YOU and all their constituents in opposition to this job-killing deal. Take action and tell your Representative we can't afford to lose any more jobs-- Vote No on the Korea FTA!

Since NAFTA, the U.S. has lost 5 million good manufacturing jobs and the Korea FTA would cost at least 160,000 jobs nationwide, further devastating the U.S. economy. Just like NAFTA, the Korea trade deal continues a race to the bottom where corporations send jobs overseas to wherever workers’ rights and wages are the lowest, leaving U.S. workers to suffer more job losses and hard economic times, while corporate profits soar. 3 simple steps to make your voice heard!
- Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your representative's office.
- Introduce yourself as a constituent and ask to speak to the staff’s Trade Legislative Assistant. If that person is unavailable leave a message. Tell your representative’s office that you oppose the Korea FTA and ask for your representative’s position on the Korea trade deal. See sample script and talking points below.
- Record the results of your phone call here.
Sample script:
a. Hi my name is ______and I am a constituent. May I speak with the Trade Legislative Assistant?
b. I'm calling to urge Representative _________ to oppose the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
c. It is projected to increase our trade deficit and cost more U.S. jobs (see additional talking points below).
d. Does he/she oppose this Korea trade deal? Will he/she vote NO to help stop it?"
Additional talking points:
- Since NAFTA the U.S. has lost 5 million good manufacturing jobs - we can’t risk losing another 3.5 million jobs nationwide.
- In Colorado 45,000 jobs are at risk under the Korea FTA - we need these jobs.
- In Colorado unemployment is already at 9% and home foreclosures are ranked #10 in the country - we don't want more economic hardship in our state.
- Protect our jobs and take a stand against sweat shops in Korea.
- Protect our environment here and abroad - the Korea trade deal is bad for the environment because it exposes American and South Korean environmental regulations to direct attacks from foreign corporations.
