COALITION HOPES TO BRING NEEDED REFORM TO TWIA

The fight over reform of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, a state-backed agency that provides windstorm coverage along the coast, will spill over into the special legislative session that began May 31. 

And while lawsuit reform advocates and trial lawyers have had months to bend the ears of state lawmakers, a new coastal coalition said it hopes to bring the concerns of policyholders to the attention of lawmakers. 

“Don’t Kill The Texas Coast” is a partnership of the Coastal Windstorm Insurance Coalition, and the Corpus Christi and Galveston chambers of commerce. Members are hoping to raise awareness about possible changes to what is often the only windstorm insurer available in 14 coastal counties and parts of Harris County.
