Hi DPPers!
As our membership has grown significantly, I wanted to reach out to introduce/re-introduce myself to everyone as the Chair of the Social Services Leadership Small Group. Our group was started in the early days, as DPP started to attract professionals from varying types of nonprofits, we realized that the particular challenges and issues facing social services shops – which are often small or even run by a single person – might differ from those of larger organizations such as universities. So in addition to participating in all the amazing discussions and workshops hosted by DPP, we get together once a month to chat informally about our particular challenges, questions, triumphs and woes, share resources, bounce ideas off each other, etc. Some of our recent topics have been around engaging and motivating board members to fundraise, advocating for resources to our CEOs/CFOs, measuring metrics when you have limited staff and often less-than-ideal technology, and setting realistic year-over-year fundraising goals. It’s a wonderful group and I look forward to our conversations every month. We welcome any new members who would like to get involved!
While sticking with the schedule of meeting on the last Wednesday of each month, our group has established an alternating schedule of lunchtime meetings vs 5pm Eastern meetings to accommodate for members in different time zones or with varying schedules (thank you Scott Solomon for scheduling the meetings and ensuring we never miss a chance to connect!). We meet via Zoom, generally for about an hour, but it’s perfectly ok to “stop by” for just part of the chat if you can’t be on the whole time.
Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 28 at 5pm Eastern. If you’d like to join us – or would like to learn more about our small group overall – please email me and I’ll be sure to add you to the list and get you the links for the meetings!
