Saka Dawa Duchen (Wednesday, May 26) is the anniversary of the days that Shakyamuni Buddha was born, attained enlightenment and showed the aspect of passing away into Mahaparinirvana. Saka Dawa Duchen is one of the four most auspicious days in the year for Buddhists, a merit-multiplying day, when the merit of virtuous actions performed is multiplied by 300 million, as cited by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche from the Vinaya text Treasure of Quotations and Logic. In addition, it is said that any offerings done at the Mahabodhi Stupa are multiplied 8-fold! The offerings this year during the month of Saka Dawa will be of thousands of lights around the Mahabodhi Stupa and three pujas.
Pujas performed/to be performed at the Tibetan Temple in Bodhgaya:
May 19: Palden Lhamo Puja
May 20: Tara Puja
May 21: Guru Puja Donations will also go for the maintenance of the centre and Root Institute for Wisdom Culture's many charitable projects. |
