[Done and Dusted Again] Harry Patch, 1898 - 2009

I was trying to think of something traditionally daft to write for
this update when I heard that Harry Patch,
survivor of the trenches of World War One, passed away on Saturday,
aged 111. I had a moment's sensible silence instead.
This is a fantastic innings, bless him; and, for me, serves as counterpoint to those whose lives were cut so short.
I wrote a song about the Battle of Passchendaele the other year, but I’ve not played it much. It’s a sensitive topic and I have the tact of a lumphammer - it’s hard to do it justice. Maybe I should try harder.
You know, for many years Harry shied away from the “WWI-show”. Actually, he was a plumber for many more years than he was a soldier. I think I could write one about that: “Adventures in Plumbing, in Bath”, perhaps he’d think that was a fitting personal tribute.
