My suggestion to help "let go" of something..... leave it in the
middle of the room.... for several weeks.... and you will get tired
walking around it.

My latest "victory in de-cluttering" is the removal of four, 34 year
old, bamboo cane armchairs from my apartment sized dining room. The
decision to let them go was softened by talking to a dealer who would
take them on consignment, providing an opportunity to pick up a few
dollars "for my loss". Attachment issues ran deep for those four
chairs.... even if they were too large for most places I have lived
through the years. I knew "someday" I would have a larger dining
room. (Ha!)

The dealer was supposed to contact me and set up an appointment to see
the chairs. Weeks passed. I was busy. Started other clean-out
projects. Still no call from the dealer.

After five weeks with the chairs in the middle of the room, an
annoying obstacle climbing around them, I just wanted them out of my
way! So I contacted the dealer again and we set an appointment for
this past weekend. He stopped by to see the chairs, decided they were
items he could try to sell, and I helped load them into his truck....
along with an assortment of other "clutter items" I was ready to
discard.

What a relief when he picked up everything and removed them from my
living space.

I do believe having those chairs (and other items) in the middle of
two rooms, obstacles to get around for several weeks, made it easier
to let go and say goodbye to that part of my "clutter".

Gaining space is like having more room to breathe!

This is certainly an interesting take on decluttering your life.
Although, if it works for you it is every bit as effective as anything
written on the subject. We are all individuals and different things
work for different people. The approach you are taking conquers that
"out of sight, out of mind" mentality that runs rampant among clutter
keepers. For many, although they have "junk" stacked to the ceiling it
is difficult for them to get rid of any one item, in your case these
chairs. When problem items are lost in a sea of clutter no one item
stands enough to coax us into getting rid of it, so as a result we
just don't get rid of ANYTHING!

I think your simple solution is terrific and I'm sure it will be of
benefit to your fellow junkers in this forum. Thank you for your input
and keep it coming! We want to hear about all your successes!

Thanks
Ryan
