The Scotia bank in Cabarete and most likely all the Scotia banks in the Dominican Republic don't accept Dutch Pin ATM Card cards anymore.
They did not give a reason when I asked. The only argument I heard when I inquired over it was 'that they have another line'.
Well maybe this argument will do for most but my guess is that the typical greediness is the reason and that they did not earn enough money over these transactions. When you use a MasterCard or Visa then the profit on each transaction is much better.

So for people who were used to take out money with their regular bank cards it's a lot more expensive now!

Well done Scotia bank! It's so typical over how the things go here in the Dominican Republic and their attitude to people that live here from abroad. The Gringo as milk-cow! Short term profits and no long term vision. Will they never learn?

So folks, if you don't have a Creditcard then you don't have to go to this Scotiabank!

Yes Progresso still accept Maestro. But Scotia is a dead end now. Maestro is common among Dutch people who take out money on ATM machines and of course in lots of other countries in the world.
