Dominica Opposition Manifesto Launch Flops 2 Days B4 Election Day
Roseau, Dominica (December 15, 2009) -- Dominica's main opposition
political party, the United Workers Party, headed by 69-year-old Ron
Green, told Dominicans that 27 days into the 30-day election campaign,
that he would launch his Party's manifesto in Newtown, Roseau South on
Tuesday night. Twenty-seven days into the election campaign with only
two days remaining, UWP's Ron Green said he would launch his Party's
manifesto.
Green appeared at the podium at approximately 11pm. Dominicans were
anxiously awaiting the deployment of the UWP manifesto, but all Ron
Green could offer was yet another promise. "You will receive and can
get your copy online tomorrow morning." Having waited for twenty-seven
days and so many hours Tuesday evening, Anthony Astaphan and Charles
Savarin said they felt the country had been let down. Savarin said,
"he had just said to the BBC that his was the largest and most
organized Party and that is why he felt they would win and here he is
demonstrating that his Party cannot even produce an Election
Manifesto. How is he going to produce a Budget and a plan for the
development of the Country."
Anthony Astaphan was also not impressed. "This was another example of
clear incompetence of the United Worker's Party. Is this supposed to
be a demonstration of a credible alternative to the Government?"
Election Day in Dominica is on Friday, December 18th and Charles
Savarin says he remains confident. "We are taking Dominica to the next
level. We have the plans. We have the funding. We have the team. We
have the leadership. We have the experience. Vote Labour!"
