Dom and Ernie Update: The missing link!

Dear all,

I thought it might be time to give you a brief update as to the Dom and Ernie Project situation.

As many of you now know Ernie is sadly unable to pick up and go on the journey that was inspired by him. A week before the first planned departure date over a week ago, I visited Ernie in hospital to find out that the early stages of Prostate cancer had been added to his already impressive list of ailments. We had to draw the line somewhere, and that was it, hoping that staying at home and being treated for a few months may give Ernie the strength back to come and ride the last week or two of our journey with us into New York. We'll remain hopeful that that will be the case!

In the mean time, we are ready to roll having divided the journey up into 9 legs and spread the message to disabled and impaired would be adventurers around the States that they can ride with us on the tandem. We have had an incredible response and have a variety of people set to jump on; a visually impaired youth from Las Vegas, a double below the knee amputee, a multiple organ transplant patient and a few others!

There is however, one thing stopping us from leaving! While the truck is packed, Alonso my Chilean friend is ready to drive it, the bike is shiny and rocking impatiently on its kick stand, the cameras are primed to record the journey in full high definition.................BUT WE STILL DON'T HAVE OUR FIRST COMPANION TO RIDE WITH US FROM LA TO VEGAS. At this point, we need someone prepared to drop everything and take the plunge straight after July 4th weekend! I have resorted to praying!
