Dear friends,
Knowing that she had never pedaled an upright 'foot' pedal bike, that she was non-verbal and has severe trouble walking, the three of us in this 'Domand Ernie crew' were concerend that Rachel, 31 with Cerebral Palsy may not be able cope with the relative stresses and strains of bike touring, not to mention our inexperience in working this disability. But we need not have worried. Not only was Rachel able to pedal well - after we did some sneaky pedal adaption outside a hardware store - but she was also the most enthusiastic person we have had on this journey so far! When our enthusiasm waned, when there was rain or headwind or hills, her's held firm. After only a short time we became better at communicating using Rachel's word sheet as well as understanding a myriad of signals and faces! Take a look at a snippet of her portion of the journey on www.wilderness.com or go straight to the Youtube video

I hope this email finds you all well and enjoying - depending on where you are - the tail end of summer. Here the leaves are beginning to show signs of turning. Time to get the Merino wool shirts I was given out (Thanks Ibex!!!)......
Best wishes
Dom
