Another advantage is that as I discard an old incubtor top, I keep the bottom half. it makes it handy to set up the spare and transfer eggs to that bottom and just move the top onto it. I do rolling hatches and therefore need to clean the bottom half often even though eggs are still hatching.
what's a rolling hatch?

Some call it staggered hatch. Its when you keep setting eggs in the same incubator day after day until it fills up. This vs storing eggs outside of incubator and putting them all in at once. I just mark the expected hatch date on top of the egg, date laid and set on the side. I use a different color magic marker for each day which makes it easier to grab out each "set" that need to go into the hatcher for last 3 days. I put guinea and chicken eggs in there together.

You kind of have to unless you have a huge flock and can gather enough eggs for a week of storage. Frankly, I have never had much luck with storing them prior to inculation .
