The momma skunk I chose to exterminate this year had 7 babies. I would rather not have done it but it was her or me and mine. Some choices are really hard to make. If she would have stayed in the woods next door this wouldn't have become an issue at my house.

We have strict laws here in my state.  It is illegal to transport a wild animal, no matter whether to relocate it to save its life or not.  Basically its let them invade your house or barn, or pick up the Have a hart trap and drop it into a full barrel of water.

Many states have laws like that. Many people ignore them. I must confess that the combination of hav-a-hart and drowning doesn't sit well with me. If you  feel you must kill the critter, why not do it humanely?

As a law-abiding person, you might check your state laws on euthanasia and animal cruelty.

The drowning keeps the skunk from spraying.

How does one humanely kill a skunk that has been trapped in a live trap?

That may depend on the state.  Definition of humane may differ depending on state law, and may be influenced by who is doing the killing. In most cases, it is probably best to call F&W or Animal Control, if you aren't able to humanely kill wildlife.
