We have a skunk living under the shed next to the henhouse.  I really hate to trap her because they don't relocate them here, they shoot them.  How much of a danger is she to my hens?  Just eats eggs??

Move it on. I had one get in a pen. It killed a bunch of very hard to
find exotic waterfowl. Remember they are basically very pretty
weasels, but weasels they are! And they can fit thru the same 1" high
gap as a weasel, tho' it does need to be a bit wider than what a
weasel can get thru.

The only problem we ever had with skunks was getting in the chicken house at night and eating the eggs.  They left the chickens alone.   We just had to go out and close the door earlier so the skunk couldn’t get in.

To All,

I was fortunate enough to have my roosting poultry choose to leave the henhouse and go roost 11 ft up in the rafters of my 60 ft X 22 ft farm implement shed.  They are safe from virtually all predators.  I then put a row of nesting boxes 24 inches off the ground on platforms that are attached to a row of 8 overgrown Atlantic White cedar trees ..... spaced 6 ft apart.  The birds lay their eggs in the nest and roost 75 ft to the north.  I've had sporadic issues with magpies robbing the eggs from the nest boxes, but never an issue with a hen brooding a clutch of eggs in them.   Even my guinea hens followed the chicken hens into the elevated nest boxes.  Every year I get 1-2 clutches of guinea keets to hatch from a guinea hen in the elevated nest boxes.   One year I trapped 35 skunks & 35 feral cats in a 6 month period.  I gave them the Tony Soprano treatment...... "2 in the head ..... makes sure they're dead!"

Yes;, a skunk can grab the bird through the wire, pull its neck close and suck the blood out of the body.  I would NOT encourage them to set up house in the coop or barn!
