One of the reasons why I really loved the POCOPHONE F1 was how Xiaomi kept updating the device with new features. It seems that the Mi 9 will also enjoy such a treatment, with the latest Vlog mode which debuted on the Mi Note 10 also available on the Mi 9!
You get the same presets as you would on the Mi Note 10, but one of the things I noted when doing a quick test was just how fast the Mi 9 saves the vlog. While the Mi Note 10 takes around 1015 seconds to save the video file, the Mi 9 does it almost instantly. That just proves my theory that the Mi Note 10 is held back by its Snapdragon 730G.
While Xiaomi added Vlog mode to the Mi 9, it seems like ShootSteady will still be exclusive to the Mi Note 10, despite the two devices sharing what appears to be the same 20MP ultra-wide camera module.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro comes with lenses by Leica, wrapped up in this camera block with futuristic-looking rounded edges. In photo mode, you now get 2 different style options: Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic.
In video mode, you need to open settings and switch on the macro camera. I think it looks pretty good. And you can shoot full 4K video with the macro as well. And it even supports up to 60fps frame rates.
As I want to use the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro for shooting bugs, I opted for a solution that solves all the problems I faced with different sensors offering different resolutions: an external lens, a macro lens that allows me to use the 108MP sensor and capture 4K at 30fps videos all the time. This works in both the regular Video mode and also when using the Pro mode of the Camera app from the smartphone.
One final note related to video: the Pro mode in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro allows control over a series of features that include everything from shutter speed, ISO, EV and WB, adjustment of the metering mode (center-weighted, frame average and spot) and even manual focus (which works great for macro). The interface also includes an exposure verification tool (zebra stripes) and focus peaking, besides LOG.
