Hi,

Unfortunately, I have to go to a fund raising(against my wishes) so I won't be able to make the meeting again this Saturday.
But please keep me posted on how it went.  I wish we had someone take minutes....or is it not necessary yet?

Also, please let me know what our website address is once it is completed. I was told that it was being worked on.

Please use our Facebook group......
http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=28385953946
I want it to look lively and with many members. So when you're on Facebook, just come by and write a comment and keep it going. Post anything you want that's related to Dokdo
and/or, for future purposes, Korean....stuff.

And while you're at it, please advise on how to go about that group. It's currently called PACK(Pretty Awesome Chicago Koreans). We can't change the name anymore
so I wasn't sure wether we need to create another group.  But it has 20 members already so I think it wouldn't be good to make another one and ask everyone to switch over.
So I guess we'll just keep it this way....except it's call PACK.
Go read the posts, if you haven't yet. Despite what I wrote, I don't like bait and switch.

At the next meeting or maybe after the concert, can we define what our roles are as an organization? It didn't sound like we solely exist for the purpose of Dokdo.  If we plan on having other projects besides from this Dokdo issue, then I think PACK is OK. It's easy on the ears and no one really has to know what it stands for(Hae In, Pretty Awesome Chicago Koreans is not a good organizational title. haha). No one knows what KALBI stands for but it's just really easy.

Have a good weekend.

Hello,

Hope your weekends were good.
I was hoping if someone can fill me in on what went on at the last meeting.
There must have been a lot that went on so let me know.

Should we start using the HANteam group alias for group emails?

So far, since Peter's email, only two members have joing the HANteam Facebook group.
Please come by and say HI.

Peter hyung, can you tell me what's going on with our website? I'd rather speak to my brother about flash animations after we have that as he'd like to take a look at the website.
Have a good weekend.

Peter, could you please send out the form for the petition signing sheet?
I would like to have some to get them signed during our UIC KASA meeting on Tuesady and just for future.
I think a lot of people actually wanted that.

Thank you~~~!!!

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During last meeting, I wouldnt really say much went on.

Lets see....

The meeting was led by Ji In and Elliot, with the younger members present:
Alexis[Heain], Jane Kim, Shawn Jung, Julia [HaeWon], Yoonie, Eunice and I ^^

Other people present(were not part of the meeting):
Winda[ji in and heain's mom]
other than that I dont know the names of the ahjuhssis that were present.

1. About the concert:

We decided on the concert name, and aside from that, not much more could be decided because we did not have a venue for sure. What we have for sure about the concert is the date and the name of the concert which will be

"United for DOKDO"  on Nov. 29th, 2008.

Because the location is still TBA (and we have assigned individuals from the group to contact the venues such as Elliot and Ji In, we should have a place by the next meeting), ticket prices will vary. It all depends on who the artists are coming for sure from Korea other than Crying Nut. There is apparently a "beautiful, tall, great dancer" female artist that might be coming, but she is not for sure adn which is why we are not releasing her name. We are trying hard for a female artist because Crying Nut is a most[or all?] male artist rock band.

2. Autographs before concert:

Another thing we agreed on was that the first 100 people would get autograph time in a private room with the artists. First come first serve basis.
And of course everyone gets the t-shirts and neon lights!

3. Ticket Sale:

There was a suggestion of ticket price changes if bought ahead of time... like 5 bucks difference?? (like if bought at certain places, it is $5 cheaper than at the door)

4. Market Outreach

And because it was a late notice, we couldnt have had a market outreach this past weekend, but look forward to one for the upcoming weekend of October 11th~12th. Usual places such as 중부시장 [Chicago Food Market], 아씨 [Assi foor market], H-mart [H mart! ^^] will be the locations. Hopefully Peter or someone sends out a schedule sometime during this week.

Feel free to correct me ONLY IF YOU WERE AT THE MEETING!!!!!!

Other than that, I hope everyone had a great weekend and hope to see all next weekend at the meeting. Please come because Winda was emphasizing the importance of the next meeting because we will have finalized venue info and artists info by then!!!!!

Thanks, Mary.

I made the signing sheet last time, and there's not much to it.
If some people are reluctant to give out their addresses, just ask them to put down village name (Niles, IL) And if you are doing it at a church/temple, make sure to ask for pastor/priest/seu-nim's permission.

see u all next week! :)

Hello HAN team,

We cannot have the concert at North Park University, so we have to contact different venues for the concert.
So, I am asking HAN team members to contact at least one place, and follow up.

me (Ji-in): Auditorium theatre of Roosevelt University

Billy: Cahn auditorium (Northwestern) 847-491-5080

Elliot :Regal Theater 773-298-9400

Jane(Sung-a): UIC forum

1. Do ASAP, because thses places are booked months in advance.

2. As the venue's manager if we are required to use their sound/light employees&security.

3. Ask what system do they use for tickets( ticketmaster, their own tickets, etc.)

4. Ask the % they take if we sell merchandise in booths.

5. Ask venue parking availabilty (Thanks Elliot for the venue info.!)

Everyone else, let me know if you know any place with at least 1500 seats.

Yoonie (Cathie) is making brochure and Eunice is making the poster.

Please send them information about dokdo issue and/or any idea that they can use.
(we can also use them for the program book)

HAN team hwaiting!

FYI,
I contacted Auditorium theater yesterday but don't think it's going to work out because of their high price.  I'm trying to contact the Skokie performing arts center as well... left few messages yesterday and today but no word yet.  It may be booked for that day already... Keep looking at other places.

We're also going to have another signing session at Assi or H-Mart this Saturday around 11am.   Apparently, that's when it's busiest on Saturdays.  Please plan for that and we will try to have our meeting right after.  Thanks.
Peter

Hello,

I can't get in touch with anyone at Cahn Auditorium.  I've tried it the last 3 days and no one picks up. Their website only shows one phone number of 847-491-5080

I'd much prefer to have everything prepared before we set about preparing for the concert. It seems like this thing is being rushed to accomodate a date to be set in 2008.  My opinion is that we should set a date maybe further down the road and plan accordingly instead of having to find a venue AND the talent to fill it.

I know there are some names that were tossed around but in the last email we weren't even 100% sure about who is coming.
Once everything is decided including talent and venue, we are supposed advertise and sell the tickets in less than 2 months? The posters and flyers for the concert would need close to week, yes?  We'd probably advertise in the Korean media as well, wouldn't we?

Have a good one

I know it's really hard to get a venue last min, but let's just try to contact all the possible places (Big high school auditorium, community colleges...anything..)

Crying Nut is coming for sure, and there are already many people heard about the concert being held on 11/29th.

So, please, everyone should work as hard as possible to get a venue.
If 11/29th doesn't work, as if we can get it on 11/28th instead.

Let's not give up untill we have no choice.

Thanks, HAN team!

I checked Rosemont Theater with a friend because he works there and they are booked in November.

Also, I was checking out random places...
House of Blues: already reserved.
Metro: did not have space either.

Also, Northside is REALLY REALLY SMALL and LIMITED! been tehre way too much because of sister... anyway... if we want a chicago high school, would you guys mind Lane Tech High School Auditorium? I mean I think it held about 2000 students[chairs]... They redid the chairs inside and there is a parking lot to it. Since they are a school they dont have ticket problems or bouncers and watnot xD

another sugestion....
Would it be too expensive to checkout the Navy pier Skyline Stage? It says it holds 1500 people at any weather. AND it is not booked AT ALL...

I was also thinking about the Symphony centers downtown or Dominican Universitiy[Lund Auditorium]. Those places hold a lot of seats and I have been to couple of them because of Orchestra performances. Lund Auditorium holds 1100 seats though =/ parking is free? ^^;;

yeah but the chairs have been renewed. As far as i know they spent a lot of money renewing the inside because of the centennial show [2008 = 100 years]

Another place that is not yet busy is Aragon... but that place seems ghetto and Ive noticed that parking was on the streets everytime I passed it. Its in uptown, near the lake on Lawrence ^___^;;; [p.s: LOTS of Mexicans... be careful Heain =p] [j/k j/k] some rock bands perform there too so it shouldnt be so bad.

Richard,

I assume NU's basketball court can be turned into a concert hall.  If not, I'm not sure we should have the concert at such a venue.
But if by basketball court, do you mean where the team plays ball for the season? I would think a place like that(haven't been to their ball game) would be too large. Let me know.

I also don't think that we should have the concert at a place where we only have folding chairs.  Mary, folding chairs, however nice they might be, are still folding chairs. A toilet made of gold and diamonds is still a toilet. kekeke. ^^

I know we are rushed but I hope that those places are our last resorts.  What do you think? I'm not discounting anything due to time constraints but hopefully we can find a better place.

Can someone tell me about Crying Nut? I just found out through youtube that they sang 말달리자 which I love(and sometimes belch out at noraebangs) but are they still a big draw? We used to sing 말달리자 back in my days. Yes, kids, that was quite a while ago. haha

Please go and join the chicagoHanteam facebook group.  We only have 9 members. I agree with Peter that this is better for the long run.
Come by and say hi.

Have a good weekend.

any type of gym/basketball court would be difficult.
the way gyms are designed would distort the sound during the concert and add way too much echo.

crying nut...
well, haha. they are still popular amongst korean fobs born in the late 70s to early 80s, and even some younger fobs these days; since every fob sings that song at norebang.
Not many korean-americans however does not know who crying nut are.
korean-americans, if they do listen to korean music, it's usually kpop, krap, or just a singer who is very attractive.

I was also wondering the same thing that Billy was. Then again, I am not really that tuned into the Korean music scene whatsoever but my question was, who our target audience was and whether crying nut was the best act for that target audience.
