Hi, we are considering building a file system using Dokan, when the files are read and written by the end user, the files are transported to/from a certain server configured as a document storage server.  But this file system, made available to the end user, from which files can be read and written to by the end user programs, especially Word, using normal file specification like dok:\path\filename.ext, we would lilke io prevent it being accessible from the file explorer.  Is it possible to build this into the file system ?

Hi, yes it is possible to use the ProcessId during request to check which is the requestor application and deny their access by returning STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. Be aware that some antivirus check content before other applications (Word) and denying their access will result on the antivirus denying Word to access the content since they were refused.
