The current Member for Cleveland issued an electronic newsletter today which mentioned Toondah Harbour among other things.

Some of his words about Toondah Harbour may be of interest to those of you who were not on his mailing list. I reprint them below, the yellow highlighting is mine.

"The revised Toondah Harbour scheme will create jobs and opportunities for locals while protecting the environment and maintaining park-land areas.  It will strike the right balance in moving Cleveland forward, and protecting the Cleveland we love.

Despite the mis-information being distributed by politically motivated groups, the project remains on track.  The revised Toondah Harbour scheme will rejuvenate Cleveland’s CBD and benefit Cleveland and Straddie as a whole."

Here are a few questions that puzzle me after reading these words:

  1. How does dredging out a basin for a 400 berth marina in Ramsar wetlands "protect the environment"?
  2. Where is the economic or any other analysis that explains how establishing a new residential/retail/commercial centre at Toondah Harbour will "rejuvinate Cleveland's CBD" ?
  3. Who mis-informed the community by issuing a draft PDA scheme for public consultation without the supporting technical studies? Without even admitting that there were supporting technical studies?
  4. Who said in State Parliament that the scheme had "largely positive support" when it is clear from a petition signed by 1,200 people (mainly locals) that it does not?
  5. Who is the politically motivated person who is full of mis-information?
