The Top 7 Reasons to worry about plans for Toondah Harbour
Toondah Harbour development plans were released earlier this year by Redland City Council.
The consultation process was a sham with very few details made available for review.
Cleveland people were outraged, wrote letters, signed petitions and protested.
Council’s Toondah scheme was savagely criticised by senior architects who said it was:
“a very poor quality piece of work and unworthy of the professionalism that should be expected and available in this part of the world and what the residents of the Redlands deserve”
The Government’s minor revamp of the Toondah scheme is still flawed.
1. Council’s scheme will not keep G.J. Walter Park as we know and love it. The cricket oval and dog off leash area are not guaranteed to stay.
2. Free Straddie parking for residents and visitors will be history. Everyone will have to pay to use a new, privately owned, multi storey car park.
3. Dredging for a 400 berth marina will destroy the coastline, reduce fish breeding areas and harm the bay. Koalas will be threatened by extra development in the Toondah area.
4. A competing retail centre will kill off the Cleveland CBD.
5. It is only suitable for mega developers and local building contractors will not get a look in.
6. The how, why and when of the $80 million of harbour infrastructure proposed has not been explained or investigated.
7. Ratepayers across Redland City could end up paying $MILLIONS for Toondah infrastructure.
We must work together
to stop Council from messing up our
Park, our harbour and our CBD with a crazy scheme
that has not been thought
through, and would only benefit out of
town developers.
This community needs a simple scheme that works for residents, ratepayers and local businesses.
