Thanks very much Craig. They contacted me and although problems on my hard drive are still giving me problems with Wdsmartware they loaded another program that will do my back up for me so all is well.

I recently got a Western Digital MyBook external hard drive to enable Time Machine. It has its software installed on a "virtual CD" called "WD SmartWare" which shows up on the desktop any time the drive is plugged in. Since I will use this virtual drive only very rarely, how can I hide it from the desktop, while allowing other CDs to show up?

but VCD didn't work until I changed the security preferences, which I had to do with the smartware to get rid of the password. Then after VCD worked, the My Book was still read only, so I used the smartware which was still installed to erase everything already on the drive, and then it finally worked like an external hard drive is supposed to and was read and writable (and then I deleted the smartware software I had installed on my computer)

I just plugged it in to one of my system. Then I booted that system up to an Xp install CD and then when given the option from the CD as to what hard-drive I wanted to install to I chose the MyBook and deleted the partition and then formatted it using the Install cd. Once tha formatting was done, I then canceled the CD boot and restarted my system. Now I have a clean MyBook with nothing on it at all, just like the darn thing is supposed to be.

Second, on Linux, I ran palimpsest (a disk management utility w/ a GUI) removed all visible partitions and chose Format drive -> Master Boot Record -> BSD. I then chose Format drive->don't partition.

You have to copy it to your hard drive to run it (otherwise, it gives you an error message saying as much), and once you've done that, you just run it and follow the prompts. Each time you go through the process, it will alternate between being visible and being hidden.

Note: This software is the same software that you can download as mentioned in other answers... In this answer, I'm just pointing out that a version of it (though presumably it may not be the latest version, and therefore you may want to download it) exists on the "virtual CD" already, which you can copy and run.

Is there a Unix partition in My Book Live drive, besides the windows partition?
I ask because some of the folder security settings in my window folders show, root (unix user\root) and share (unix group\share) in addition to Everyone and Nobody??? Where does WD shareware store the backup files?? Is there any way to view the drive map from the dashboard? How can I manually restore any hidden WD smartware backup files if I deleted the WD smartware program and then reinstalled it?

Thank you, Trancer. I was contacted by the support department. [Deleted[ was knowledgeable and helpful. After thoroughly checking some potential Windows 10 issues, it turns out it was AVG Antivirus preventing it from starting. An exception was created in AVG for wdsmartware.exe and it starts and runs fine now.

I have the same problem with one exception there is NO error message. When I start WD Smartware the Icon remains on the screen for 3 or 4 seconds and then disappears. I have reinstalled the system several times and I noticed that the problem occurred after I installed WD Utilities. Also WD smartware is not shown in Taskmanager/start-up.

My passport ultra has worked since 2017. Yesterday (11/2022) I updated the latest (Windows 10) WD Drive Utilities and WD Backup. Then just like you, when I clicked on WD Smartware, the icon came up on for a few seconds and then nothing. Have you or anyone else found a solution for that problem. Thank you.

just the default share for smartware backups, you can change it in smartware and delete or set permisions on this share as needed. It could also be used for anything esle with no issues except possiable confusion

I have have replaced my 15 year old My Book that has just failed with a new larger My Book.
15 years of use is very good so no complaints there.
The old My Book came with WD Smartware which I am still using.
The new My Book comes with WD Discovery.
My question is: Is wd discovery a replacement for wd smartware that retains the smartware functionality?
I back up multiple internal drives to multiple external drives, can discovery do this?
I would read the manual if I could find it.
Thanks

ECG (Electrocardiogram) measurements in home health care demands new sensor solutions. In this study, six different configurations of screen printed conductive ink electrodes have been evaluated with respect to electrode potential variations and electrode impedance.

The electrode surfaces consisted of a Ag/AgCl-based ink with a conduction line of carbon or Ag-based ink underneath. On top, a lacquer layer was used to define the electrode area and to cover the conduction lines. Measurements were performed under well-defined electro-chemical conditions in a physiologic saline solution.

The results showed that all printed electrodes were stable and have a very small potential drift (less than 3 mV/30 min). The contribution to the total impedance was 2% of the set maximal allowed impedance (maximally 1 kΩ at 50 Hz), assuming common values of input impedance and common mode rejection ratio of a regular amplifier.

Our conclusions are that the tested electrodes show satisfying properties to be used as elements in a skin electrode design that could be suitable for further investigations by applying the electrodes on the skin.

The aim of this thesis work has been to study textile and screen printed smartware electrodes for electrocardiographic (ECG) measurements both in terms of their electrode properties and possibility to further improve their robustness to movement induced noise by using signal processing. Smartware electrodes for ECG measurements have previously been used in various applications but basic electrical electrode properties have not sufficiently been looked into. Furthermore, we believe that there is a possibility to reduce disturbances in the smartware ECG by adding redundant sensors and applying sensor fusion signal processing.

Electrical properties of conductive textiles have been evaluated in terms of stability and electrode impedance. Three yarns and textile electrode surfaces were tested. The electrodes made from pure stainless steel and 50\% stainless steel/ 50\% polyester showed acceptable stability of electrode potentials. All electrode measurements were performed on skin.

Furthermore, we produced six screen printed electrodes and their electrical performance was investigated in an electrochemical cell. The tested inks contained carbon or silver particles in the conduction lines, and Ag/AgCl particles in the electrode surface. Results show that all electrodes were stable in time, with a maximum drift of a few mV during 30 minutes. The silver ink is superior to the carbon based in terms of electrode impedance at the higher frequencies.

To extract viable physiological information from noisy signals, canonical correlation analysis (CCA) was applied on multi-channel ECG signals recorded with textile electrodes. Using CCA to solve the blind source separation (BSS) problem, we intended to separate the ECG signal from the various noise sources. The method (CCABSS) was compared to averaging of the ECG channels and to the independent component analysis method (ICA). In the dataset consisting of noisy ECG recordings, the signal was uninterpretable in 7% after CCABSS. Corresponding values for averaging and ICA were 33% and 17%, respectively.

Smartware applications often include heartbeat detection while moving, a measurement situation which is prone to produce noise corrupted ECG signals. To compensate for this, we used an event detector based on a multi-channel input, a model of the event and weighted correlation. For measurements at rest and static muscle tension, the sensitivity of the event detector was 97% and 77% respectively. Corresponding values for the golden standard detector Pan-Tompkins were 96% and 52%, respectively.
