A happy dog is a healthy dog. Although you might think that animals
generally have a strong constitution and dogs in particular can eat
almost anything and digest it, a lot of the food you give your dog can
be extremely harmful for its health and cause a host of health
problems when the dog is older. In the worst case scenario, your dog's
lifespan could be shortened because of the kind of food you may be
giving him.
The following foods you need to categorically avoid:
1. Chocolates: Although your dog will absolutely love to eat it. In
fact anything that contains cocoa is a strict no-no.
2. Caffeine: Surprisingly dogs and cats love drinking tea or coffee,
but not everything one likes can be good for one. This applies to dogs
as well as humans. Caffeinated products including colas are said to
damage dog's circulatory system
3. Avocados: Tend to cause problems in the heart, tissues and lungs.
Although your dog is unlikely to eat the fruit by itself, he might
enjoy a treat or two flavoured like avocado, something you need to
avoid.
4. Raw fish: Although dogs don't have such an appetite for fish as
cats do, they do tend to like certain types of fish. However, avoid
giving your dog raw fish at all costs. Specifically fish like salmon
tend to have parasites that will breed in a dog's intestine leading to
a host of gastro problems
5. Raisins and grapes: Any food containing these is as good as poison.
These cause a lot of damage to a dog's kidneys.
6. Nuts: Especially macadamias. Other types of nuts may or may not
harm a dog but you're better off not feeding him this.
7. Alcohol: This one's a no-brainer. No matter how much you enjoy that
Budweiser, there is no reason to share it with your dog.
