The introduction states "Through the centuries the dog has held a special place in the heart and mind of mankind. This unique relationship, which man has had with no other animal, has been celebrated in art since the beginning of recorded time. Starting with the earliest cave paintings showing man and dog hunting together and continuing into the 20th century, the dog has been celebrated in art. This special admiration reached its zenith in the 19th century when sculpture became the art of choice to honor the canine in the same medium that was used for the ancient heroes............. BRONZE " featuring, among others pieces by Moigniez (1833-1894), Fremiet 1824-1910), and Bayre (1796-1875).
