Hi Andy,

Apologies if I’m not being clear here, you would absolutely be welcome to book the events room instead of Dinky and I’m hoping we could make that easier for people to do. The events room really doesn’t get all that much use during weekday daytimes so there should be plenty of capacity. Is there a reason that it wouldn’t be suitable for your meetings?

Hi John

I’ve been booking dinky for meetings in the day.

If there is no bookable meeting space I will have to stop using does as a cowork space.

I can’t  travel 45 min to potentially be able to use a room or not as the meetings I'm doing here I need a meeting room.

I understand the income from me is small but is there a solution we can come up with for having some form of bookable room?

Hi all

We’ve had a request from someone to exclusively book out the Dinky meeting room for a long duration. The person requesting it has been quite flexible about potential duration but they’re basically looking for 6 months if not longer. As we were getting close to letting out the events room I would hope that this is an easier thing for us to cope with, but it obviously would reduce the space we have for events and meetings. On the other hand we would have that income helping us to get by.

The idea would be that for “events” - they would need to go in the events room, for more ad-hoc meetings you would be able to use either the events room if it’s free or you could try using the Fibre Arts room if no one else needed it (i.e. for fibre arts). Currently there’s about 3-4 nights when we have people booked into Dinky and the Events room also has a meeting so we will need to reschedule those or see if one of them is small enough to use the fibre arts room. Seán has tried to contact those involved but if you think you would be affected and haven’t heard then please get in touch.

Obviously if the Fibre Arts room is getting more non-fibre-art-related use I would want to remind people to leave the space tidy. Pick up your mug when you leave, don’t leave chairs pushed out, definitely don’t leave litter around, and please don’t move or fiddle with equipment you perhaps don’t need to use or don’t understand (basically standard social rules we’d expect around the whole space!)

We are hoping to start this soon as the person has been waiting on a reply for a week or so while we’ve discussed it internally and tried to work out how this could work optimally. Obviously we won't have thought of everything, so if there’s any reasons you can see this being a major problem and we absolutely shouldn’t do it then please do voice concerns, and feel free to voice them direct to me (john@does) or the organisers (hello@does) if you don’t feel comfortable voicing them in public.

Best regards,

John

Hi John,

Sounds very positive. Will it be possible to book the Fibre Arts room
out for meetings in future in a similar way to the way we can currently
book Dinky? Presumably blocked off when there are Fibre Arts events
occurring?

I’m slightly wary of that (because it leaves no way to use fibre arts equipment/property during the booked time), but I’m wondering if we allowed Events Room bookings the same way we do Dinky, whether that would suffice. Basically I realised that Dinky is the only room that people can self-book, and it might be possible to let people book the events room the same way without causing issues with capital-E Events (as it should all be based on the same calendar, at least while it’s YouCanBookMe).

I appreciate the difficulties and the need to put the cash-flow in the
black is paramount, but if at all possible it would be really helpful if
there was a way to be able to book some space for private meetings,
however that might work.

Cheers,

Alex

Here's a thought - could be silly but just dropping it in - what about if we had some vertical dividers like we have for desks but tall ones, and we could put them out to block off a smaller meeting area within the overall event space?

Then that could be deployed when people want a smaller meeting area more like Dinky and removed when the entire space was in use? And maybe multiple people could then use the space simultaneously?

Any room is fine but there is currently no online booking system for any of the other rooms to use is there?
