I'm wondering what the priorities are for this? I'd probably work on doorbot unless told otherwise. It would be good to work out what we really want to get done in advance of the event so that on the day people can get going on things straight away. Some discussion on the google group will also enable this. We'll also need to work out what we might need to buy so that we can do that sooner than later.

Anybody on this list know anything about Asterisk - the OSS PBX software? I was just wondering how much it would cost to set it up in DoES for alerting us to phone calls and taking messages (maybe in the future for relaying calls but that can come later).

I don't know about Asterisk, but I'd say the priorities would be:

* Get New Dinky fully operational - so installing RFID lock and getting Doorbot up and running on it; and running some Internet to the room
* Improve the organisation of the workshop - mostly sorting through the racking making sure stuff is in boxes and labelled so we know what's there.  Plus moving one of the racks through into the New Dinky meeting room if it fits.  That'll free up loads of space in the workshop

What does anyone else think are the top things stopping the space being more useful, welcoming, used, awesome...?

Cheers,

Adrian.

John – we’ve got some experience setting up various Asterisk and related VOIP solutions (e.g. http://www.freepbx.org/) – or rather one of my team has!

Let me know if you want to pick his brains – it’s fairly straight forward as far as I know…

Thanks Rich, I guess I'm just wondering what the initial costs are and hoping that someone else might be willing to take the lead on it ;-)

Hi John,

Sebastian from LivLUG is an Asterisk engineer and installs/maintains it for clients around the region. I doubt he's on this list but if you want me to pass you his contact details I can do so off list. I'm sure he'd be willing to give you an idea of costs and technical implications without charging but obviously you'd be better off talking to him.

Not sure if that's any use but let me know if you want those contact details. Cheers,

Dan

Hey Dan, could you forward the email on to him, let him respond if he's got time? I guess the original one as I've been too efficient at cutting the history from here!

I actually know someone who runs an Asterisk PBX. If you want, I can put you in touch with him?

Thanks Matt, had a chat with Sebastien last night. Probably going to leave it for now.

Everyone - Hack the Space is tomorrow! There's lots to do making the new room ready for use and making the workshop even more awesome! Hope lots of you will be along to help us out! I don't think we're expecting to do any painting but there'll be plenty of chance to get your hands dirty so maybe don't wear your sunday best!

John
