Hi All

Sher from Eagle Labs Liverpool got in touch to offer us an Ultimaker 2+ (which appears to be dual extruder) and materials from their Maker Lab, which is closing (they're keeping one 3D printer). Simon Jones and I went down to collect this earlier today.

There is quite a lot of sheet material, including acrylic, 3mm and 5mm laser ply, HIPS etc. mainly in 600mm x 300mm sheets, and a few reels of PLA filament. A question for the community: do you think we should charge the normal rate for this windfall, so money goes to help pay the bills, or charge less/nothing to help give our members a boost too?

Everything is on one end of the workbench at the moment. I'll try to leave it there until Maker Night so people can take a look, unless someone needs the space before then. There's also a small hazardous substances cupboard, a couple of large pink cutting mats, some mount board, a magnetic sheet, and a couple of metres of HTV.

Good stuff !

While I personally don't like ultimakers, they are a bit like apple phones, if you're not a tinkerer, they just work.  Exactly what's needed for the space.  Dual extruders would be good to set up though :).

Given the various ruminations regarding running costs, normal rates should apply, the space should profit from the donation rather than a few individuals who happen to need a bit of xyz.

Small cupboard could be used to provide better segregation for solvents, away from the other COSHH substances.

Sean

FWIW, I'd echo Sean's 2nd paragraph regarding DoES benefiting from the donation.

For what my two pennies are worth, if the material were free indoor think you should charge full price, maybe charge half the normal rate, win win for both sides, help pay the bills and offer a bit of discount at the same time.

I say just add it to the stock that people can buy. Otherwise DoES actually loses money as people won't buy the regular stuff. Not that we make much profit off that stuff anyway.

Anything that isn't part of the regularly stocked materials (the exotic/random bits) can be free (or even changed for).

Thanks,
JR

Given the state of DoES' financial outlook, (unless I've misunderstood
that) I think you should continue to charge the usual prices.

Chris T and I moved as much of the material as possible to the plan chest and labelled with prices for the bigger sheets. Chris has set up an area on the shelves by the back door for the rest of the materials. We haven't labelled these yet but if you're using them, you should be able to work out the price based on the size.

...we put incomplete pieces in the offcuts drawer, so people can still take advantage of that.

Hi all,

Anthony is super keen to start 3D printing a modular NAS enclosure for his array of hard drives.

I've still not been able to figure out why my Creality printers aren't playing ball and we wondered if it would be helpful if he volunteered to get the new Ultimaker printer up and running.

Would that be helpful. Just a thought. No worries if there are other plans for it.

Please just let me know as if so I'll organise to meet up with him after school.

Thanks!

Alex

That would be great Alex.

At the moment we're waiting for them to collect the Ultimaker 3 that they gave us by mistake and bring the 2+.

I'll try to find out when that might happen and get back to you.
