New Does website - your thoughts needed

Hi all,

Sorry you have been getting a lot of emails from me lately but these will slow down honestly. 

I've redesigned the current DoES Liverpool website in my spare time to lift it and make it more friendly showing some beautiful community faces.  The staging site is here  https://does.def-net.co.uk/

Once complete it will move to the main url. 

It's WordPress and really easy to update. I circulated it to the Directors and had some feedback - "cool & nice" and I have added a few things that Jackie & Chris asked for.  

It still has some niggles -  

• adding mailchimp to it as I need access to the account
• Sorting out the events so they look nicer and have greater functionality but that is something I will work through over the next couple of weeks.  

Going forward (when I get to it) it will feature individuals and their projects & businesses - If you want to be included in that then do scan the QR code in the bathroom.  I will also include more about the product creation that people use DoES for. 

What I need from you - 

What have I missed? - what squeezes too small or too large on mobiles. Which section is too wordy?  What doesn't flow? Much of the written copy is a simple cut and paste job from the old site to the new - although I have taken out as much superfluous copy as I could there are still some bits that just don;t make sense to me.  My copy editor (mentioning no names here) let me down.

I too am not featured as a beautiful person but if you can send me a photo that would be good. 

As I have never heard of Matrix apart from avoiding them on Nights out - if you send me a link or something then I can see what I can do.

One thing I would like to see on the home page is “How to Pay” or how to make a donation, as this takes a bit of hunting for at present. This is more for events like the Repair Cafe, as people are more likely to pay when they are in the room than after they have left.

Apart from that, keep up the good work.

It's a good point Mike - There is the "Become a member section" on numerous pages but a simple Donation element would be good - you can if you look really hard find the bank details on the wiki. I will pick it up with @John McKerrell and maybe I can roll it into the next update in a couple of months.

I also think putting a card machine style donation device next to the front door will make a difference to getting donations. We have these in our centre and we get a good few donations every friday.

That's a good call Kyle. There is one in Does so maybe it's just a bit of organising a donate point by the door.

i really like the site, im really into A.I. Design & Video and have subscribed to a lot of apps, the unbearable amount of menus, icons, click options is just too much and is really off putting. i pretty much found everything on your site and it was really easy to navigate to the options i was interested in. Great job 😎👌
