There is a sample program available for download at
dochawkbk.com/bpw; this is the copy with a couple of new features and fixes from the Bankruptcy Practice Workshop. It will function until October 21.
If you can't figure out which one to download, you don't deserve one :)
Move the "dhbk" folder to the desktop.
A few notes:
1) Use the "clear output" button before generating any output; there is a mild bug.
2) I think the "build main filing" button on the fourth row is newer and does a couple of things that "build all" up top doesn't.
3) The timekeeper (row 4) is brand new. It was added after lunch on Saturday in response to a conversation. It doesn't really put the information anywhere; it just runs for the moment. However, I'd love feedback on what to do with it. I didn't envision it so much as an independent billing program, but rather a convenient way to track time as long as you're already in the program. It will stash these simple entries to the client database. I'm assuming that it will dump as a CSV file to paste into a spreadsheet, or whatever. I'm all ears on this, though.
4) The SOFA page really just shows how it looks--it's not really saving anything right now, and only has question 3, but the slider is nifty.
5) The suggested order of data entry is basic client info through payroll deductions in the "Debtor Information" window, then the secured debts in the "Debts and Assets" window, as they're used in the rest of the means test. After that, other debts or means test in any order (I can't believe what I've been told about another program, which expects you to enter schedule by schedule, rather than whatever you feel like. If you enter "car1" or "car2" in the "ijkey" box, it will use them on the means test. "mrt1" (and any other number) are used for the mortgage payment. *Any* secured debt should show on the means test, although there seems to be a glitch in the arrears showing up.
6) there are probably a couple of things that I didn't catch that are off by 100 left over from the conversions to penny-based accounting (I caught one where it was trying to have 200 cars :)
7) there are probably a couple of obnoxious or lethal bugs lurking; I made significant changes over the weekend leading to the demo.
8) Please be gentle with Black Pete if you play with the "open cloud debtor" (you won't be asked which one; it just opens Pete.) Actually, I'm kind of curious to know what happens.
9) I believe the database that comes with it has the abbreviations "bac", "wf_cc", "sntndr", "ck" (checking), and "hshld" (household goods). It probably has a few more that I forgot (I need to add an editor for it, too, but it will use the same mechanism as the SOFA, which I'm now working on).
10) once a schedule has been generated, it fills in the summary for it. Attempting to generate the schedule again without clearing the output is going to generate some kind of error.
11) When opening a client, you actually choose the client folder. It looks for the files cc1.d.png and cc1.w.png to use as certificates when filling out exhibit D. the "Schnerd" folder already has dummies sitting there.
12) Use "open file," not "New Debtor." It figures out that it is new and creates it.
13) "Cover Pages" (bottom row) creates mailing sheets. (Sorry; at the moment, it doesn't concatenate these to what you want to mail)
14) The exemptions editor is there, but at the moment, there isn't anything that lets you open the preferences window that lets you change away from the NV exemptions (whoops!)
15) To use an exemption not in the list, type . or space, and it will stop interpreting hotkeys. Type whatever you want.
16) *IF* the exemption value box is empty, it attempts to recalculate the value. Generally, it only attempts to estimate empty fields at the moment, to prevent overwriting something you put there.
17) in most of the means test, hit "c" to get a pop-calc. You can now use +-*/() in the value fields. "w" wipes the pop-calc clean, and "d" and "q" leave it, updating values in the main card.
