We're finally to that point. I'm ready for people to genuinely test Do Want! and find all the gaping holes an impracticalities I've written into the system. Do Want is looking pretty awesome. I don't have Migration or install scripts, and "Shopping List" is not done. There are a few minor features to be implemented as well, but they mostly sit on the admin side.
So I'll be writing a migration SQL script tonight. I'm hesitant to have people move their active installations over because (as noted) it's not fully tested, and I don't want anyone to lose sensitive data. Additionally, I don't want anyone to find out what they're getting for event because they're testing and accidentally came across reservation data.
The other thing on my mind is this: I went to post an update the forums over on PHPGiftReg. It turns out that Ryan (the original developer of PHPGiftReg) has been making significant effort to update PHPGiftReg. Like me, he's using Bootstrap and is trying to move to an MVC structure. While I think his efforts will improve the experience of PHPGiftReg, there are still some advantages to the way I've constructed Do Want which will make it last a lot longer. We've had some conversation over email and we're going to continue to develop independently for the moment.
So, back to the question at hand. I need some people willing to test. By test I mean install it on your system (you probably want to be working on a copy of your database). I have high hopes (and confidence) for managers of PHPGiftReg Sites to be able to deploy Do Want in place of phpgiftreg by the end of November. I'd like to it to be ready before Black Friday, but we'll see.
Anyway, thoughts? Feedback?
