DNJ and Rockhounds,
I wanted to share the below email with everyone that was sent to my FireFighther's team.  It has a piece of a different email regarding our head coach's friend who is battling cancer.   This disease certainly hits home for many, many people.   Thank you for your help and support so far.

The funds that are received from our efforts are going to help the Duke Children's Hospital and other national cancer research efforts.    If you haven't already, please forward these on to your contact list and even post on Facebook to help WR raise funds for this cause.  Be sure to also ask if your company has matching contributions for charitable donations; many do!  You and/or your friends and family can make contributions via either of the of the following links:

Rockhounds:      http://www.stayclassy.org/fundraise?fcid=243100

DNJ Mortgage:  http://www.stayclassy.org/fundraise?fcid=243018

Also, don't forget that we will be shaving heads on May 11 as part of the big event.  Does anyone want to join me and Tyler in participation?  The league has 54 players, 14 coaches, and 6 friends and family that have already signed up!  Will you or your son be next?

Thanks again for all your work and contributions so far this year!!

David

Firefighters,

I wanted to follow up on the team meeting Saturday morning and strongly encourage everyone to get involved in this fund raiser.  The league has set a goal to for each team to raise  $275.00 but I would like us to do better.  I do not like begging for money but I think this is a great cause that can teach the kids many life lessons. Anything you and your family can do is greatly appreciated.  Please get the money to Sheri.

First, the bottom of the email string provides an update on the status of the funder raiser and events scheduled at WR.

However, on a personal note….I was reminded of the importance of this cause just yesterday.

Morgan is a good friend, that I have known for many years, and Raleigh Firefighter that I helped train.  He is only 37-38 year old.  This is a portion of an email I received from a mutual friend (Bill Hatfield).

I have added to the email to provide clarification but Bill Hatfield wrote:

I wanted to let you know that Morgan McLamb isn't doing so well.  He's had a recurrence of the tumors he fought off several years ago.  They have come back more aggressively this time.

It sounds like he took a pretty significant downturn in the last week or so and the prognosis doesn't look good.  He and his family have decided that hospice is the best choice.

Kent and I (Bill) visited yesterday with Morgan, Amy (his wife) and his family yesterday.  Amy is staying very strong and Morgan seems alert and able to follow conversations although he's not able to speak (he does try but it is hard to understand....I think Amy and his Mom can kind of interpret though).

Thank you for your support.

Mike

Well, it’s been another outstanding week for the West Raleigh Vs. Cancer fundraiser. We couldn’t be more proud of the response we’ve received regarding funds raised and those stepping up to get their heads shaved. As of the writing of this email we’ve raised $14,471! And 54 players, 14 coaches, and 6 friends and family, have agreed to shave their heads. Wow! We’re impressed!

Now for the nitty-gritty.

There are still a few things that we need donated. If there is anyone that can assist us in getting a portable stage (16 by 16) for our live entertainment, it would be a HUGE help. I am sure there is a church or civic group that has one that we could use for the day. If you know of one, please let us know. Our live entertainment is on the line.

Also, please check with your employer to see if they have a “matching gifts program” for charitable donations. Several of our WR families have mentioned GSK, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and other companies, that will match their employees’ charitable donations.

Last but not least, we are really excited to announce that the Bob Evans Restaurant at Crossroads in Cary is donating 15% of their proceeds for all dining customers all day long on May 4th. Please let your friends know of this tremendous gesture by our friends there. Pick up a brochure at the concession stand so you don’t forget.

We are planning some fun activities and are collecting some fantastic raffle prizes so bring the family out on May 11th to enjoy the festivities. Watch your favorite coaches and players get their heads shaved, eat some great food, listen to live music, and... stay tuned to find out who is going to be sitting in the DUNK TANK!

Thank you for all of your support of this great West Raleigh family event.
