Hello there, all over the world!
I've got some questions to all the Network-Guru's working with
DEC, HP, IBM, SNI, UNISYS or other UNIX-Machines using ISO-based
transport systems (like TLI, XTI ...).
For future decisions and for common interests I want to do a survey
where I want to know about the advantages/disadvantages
of the distributor specific implementations of the ISO-Stuff.
The results of the survey will be posted in a fortnight.
Therefore I *need* your experiences in administrating, programming
and working with your kind of ISO Networking-Software.
I would be especially pleased by getting some information about
former developments planned or almost done by your distributor if
s.o. knows about.
As I'm not subscribed to all of the newsgroups I'm going to send this posting,
please answer via mail or E-mail to the following account:

To make answering easier let me do some structured questions:
To the Network Administrators:
==============================
- which type of network do you have, on which hardware
- which administration tools exist (Menu-Systems, automatic
routines, Window-Support and so on)
- how difficult is it to your opinion to build up a completely new
network (LAN or WAN) with the machines and software you use
- which problems exist in adding/deleting hosts to/from an existing network
- how to configure and administrate the different Boards
- what about online-help and manuals
- what's your opinion about the whole thing (maybe in comparison to other
concepts you know
To the Network Programmers:
===========================
- which types of network do you use or have experience in
- how to get local and remote addresses in a program
- which special features besides establishing a connection
and sending expedited data does your transport system support
- how easy/difficult is it to create a working program
- what do you think about the ease of use of the programming interface
- what's your impression of the manuals and their usage
- what's your opinion about the whole thing (maybe in comparison to other
concepts you know
To the users of Network Applications:
=====================================
- which types of network do you use or have experience in
- tell me about your experiences with applications (speed, security,
crashes etc.) Opinions please!
- are there advantages/disadvantages you know of compared to other
Systems
To the Specialists:
===================
- which types of network do you use or have experience in
- what do you know about common interfaces of transport systems (for example
to TCP-IP, XTI, TLI, ... applications) do they exist, are they planned?
We have to integrate several systems with different network software, so
we need to have several interfaces on the top of a transport system.
- what about security aspects belonging to the networks you are dealing with
- as we want to use different boards, does there already exist a common
interface between board-software and transport system, or do you know
whether it's planned or not
- which protokol types are supported by the transport system you know
(ISO-LAN, X.21 X.25, ...)
- could you give me any recommendations of which machine with which type
of transport system we should buy or wait for, no matter the price
It must be a UNIX-System!!!
Any answers are quite welcome and eagerly awaited.
Thanks in advance
