Receiving Signal but no effect when trying FadeUp example

Hello,

I'm using DMXSimple with Arduino0018 through a Diecmilla into a DIY
DMX Shield. My dimmer tells me it's receiving a signal but none of the
channels are responding. I'm using a dimmer like this:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some more diagnostics; I tried the same on a windows machine and the
script also fails. I guess the error is in my shield?

When sending straight DMX I am able to get the light to fade up and
down.
