A public beta of the next DMXIS release is now available:
This release adds support for OS X Lion (although our recommendation remains to continue using Snow Leopard where possible)

The 1.2.0 release also adds support for layered presets. This advanced programming feature is explained on pages 30-31 of the user manual (accessible from the Help menu in the DMXIS standalone app).

This beta release has undergone basic testing on several in-house machines. Use this release at your own risk, and ensure you have backed up your data (including DMXIS show data and any custom fixture files) so that you may roll back to the older 1.1.2 release if you should encounter any issues.

Please let me know how you get on with this release, by adding feedback (good or bad) to this thread. Bugs or issues may also be reported & discussed here.

Dave, I love you!

Just had a quick play with preset layering. You've just made dmxis very powerful!

Thank you!!

this is soo good.
used it to fade to each scene in a musical.

the next thing that would be good is a full screen option when running it in manual mode.

This update is a dream come true to me and I'm having a great time reprogramming everything and incorporating these changes into my setup
(Acer Iconia 6120/APC 40/APC20/ELO Touchscreen setup, with DMXIS as a return Channel in Ableton 8.2.2, on Windows 7 Home Premium x64)

That said, I've noticed one issue when using DMXIS as a VST Plugin with Ableton. When mapping presets to different scenes in Clip View, if any scenes are looping then it negates the ability for other scenes to be triggered at the same time until the looping scenes are manually stopped first, even if they have opposite masked channels.

For example:
MIDI COLUMN 1: Presets with channels 1-4 Active, All others Masked
MIDI COLUMN 2: Presets with channels 5-8 Active, All others Masked

If a looping preset is chosen from column 1, then the presets in column 2 are unresponsive until manually stopped from looping, and vice versa. Any way to change this within DMXIS, or is this an Ableton issue? It would be great to be able to better incorporate overlapping looping channels for two reasons: 1.) it allows the user to easily know which channels are currently selected since they are highlighted in Ableton, and 2.) it allows the ability to layer complex lighting runs (focused on specific lights) over one and another while retaining the ability to trigger one-off lighting changes while these runs are active.

So far I'm impressed both with your response time and your open ear to your customer's concerns. I just turned my back on WholeHog III because of this update, even after dropping $1,000 on a used widget :)

Thanks again!

Hello again,

I've also just noticed that if you mask a fixture it's still selected when double-clicking unmasked fixtures of the same type, causing it to factor into Oscillator movements. Not sure if this is a bug or intended functionality, but it's not possible to deselect it without inadvertently unmasking the channel as wll. Maybe masked channels could be made inaccessible to both Oscillator and user input unless first unmasked via Macro?

If you can email a sample Ableton project (to da...@db-audioware.com) that replicates the problem, I'll have a closer look for you.

Dave.

....All I can say is Thank You Thank you!

The support team at Enttec have done it again!

I had a issue with my Macbook Pro not recognizing my newly purchased DMXIS unit, the guys have been SUPER responsive and really supportive and have now rectified the situation.

I have been looking for a very long time to find a Mac based solution to my lighting requirements as I play drums and use Logic Pro on stage to run the keys, brass, BV's and other digital audio, DMXIS seemed to good to be true!!! I tried in vain with other products...having DMXIS as an Audio Unit is literally child's play to bring the show to life....now off to buy many more lights!

Thank you once again the team at db Audioware! US and AU!

Bests

First I would like to say that after using the DMXIS beta for a couple
shows, please DO NOT make masked channels inaccessible to user input
without first unmasking; please make it inaccessible only to the
Oscillator. The ability to unmask channels with a simple click is
great when mixing live, and I used it to really good effect.

One issue I've encountered is sometimes I lose the ability to rename
Presets while using DMXIS in Ableton. This occurs whether I click
ENTER or OK, and it seems to happen pseudo-randomly. At one point it
would only happen if I tried to use a name that began with the same
word (ex: Red Stagger, to Red Shimmer) but it's become a pretty big
nuisance lately and I have a hard time renaming anything.

Second, I have a feature suggestion: I was wondering if a Macro (or
something) could be made that groups a set of faders together so that
they act as a single fader in regards to the oscillator. That way if
I'm using 3-color dimming mode (using a group of Chauvet Colorstrips,
for example) I can set the level I would like each channel to be at,
group them, then set up various Oscillator movements that operate
relative to the groups, and not the individual channels, which would
all increase/decrease in value accordingly. I realize this adds a
layer of complexity to using the Oscillator, but would make it far
more versatile in creating cues. If not a macro, perhaps it could be
accessible via right click [group/ungroup]? You could either leave it
up to the end user to remember these groupings (which would be
apparent when attempting to move one fader and seeing the others light
up and move relative to it) or perhaps the little dot above each fader
in the group could change to a matching color, since it doesn't seem
to serve any other purpose currently :)

That's where I'm at so far. This is a great update, I've been making
good use of it lately, thanks again!

I'm trying to better understand this "Masking". How is this
different from opening a show / scene and then modifying it on the
fly? So long as i don't save it - isn't that the same. Maybe
I'm not getting this.

I wold love to have the ability to "LINK" scenes with a timer. That
would be layering for me. RIght now I have to create a number of
scenes to actuate lighting effects and can't get it to go as smoothly
as I'd like. A link feature would be GREAT!

Also the ability to dbl click on a color (red) and have all the red
faders selected for change no longer works. Does DEMO mode (i've
got my DMXIS hardware at the theater) have limitations? Thought I
couldn't save shows/scenes only. Are there other limitations without
the hardware connected that are affected in DEMO mode?

Sorry, I keep referencing show / scene when it's bank / preset - guess
that it's just the way I use them.

The behavior you're seeing has nothign to do with it being demo mode,
and is probably something related to user permissions, or you using
Lion without beta 1.2, or that kind of thing. Demo mode ONLY means you
don't have the interface attached (haven't bought or left at home) and
can't output DMX levels.

Hey Jeremy thanks for the reply. This issue is happening to me when
I'm only using DMXIS. The reason I asked was because I have been
using the current release and decided to try out the beta. I found
that double clicking on the fader of one of my LED's, (say red) didn't
select all the other red LED faders. This has been working fine on
my production laptop. I even double checked it this past weekend at a
gig I've been running for the last month. It works fine, however on
my computer where I downloaded the beta - no go.

Again, I don't have any other software or hardware in the mix. I
currently only use the DMXIS software and hardware in production.

Thought I'd let Enttec know of the problem.

My theory is that it may be the fixture library not configured the
same, as opposed to different program behaviour intrinsically, but I'm
not able to test this at the moment. Maybe someone else can confirm
it?

Hi - I've been playing with 1.1.2 for a week or so in demo mode and received my DMXIS box this morning.  I am running Lion (10.7.2) on a MacBook and had the problem referred to in your FAQs about having to repeatedly re-enter the unlock code, and getting the "problem updating preferences" .  Tried the permissions fix, but to no avail.  But I've just downloaded the 1.2.0 beta, and I'm happy to see that it has solved both problems (I noticed it prompted me for password which I don't think it did with the 112 install, so presumably it wanted to do some systemy stuff). Good job!

Guys, Dave is in the final stages of preparing D-PRO* for release and won't be promoting the beta 1.2 of DMXIS up to distributed status for a couple of weeks more, at a minimum, I'd estimate.  I've heard VERY few murmurs about any problems with 1.2, so there's very little likelihood of it being snarky or crash-prone. As always, back up all your data first just to be on the safe side before installing anything new, ever.

*What is D-PRO?  Take a look over here:
http://www.enttec.com/index.php?main_menu=Products&pn=70571&show=description&name=d-pro

There's a video up over there now, too, if you've already noticed it but haven't been back in the last few days.

Any date yet on when 1.2 will be out of beta?

Also is there any preview of what will be on the next update (like
resizing screen)?
