Hi ncn,

thank you for your answer. Can you please tell me
if is possible to use two nk2 at same time? Second question is: MIDI send values between 0-127 but DMX used values between 0 - 255 is also the fader in the DMXIS on 100% when the fader in the nk2 is 100% up?

Thank you for answer
Joe

I have the nk2 ... just started messing with it. When plugged in and then start DMSXIS the nk2 will be recognized when you right click a fader or other control and select "Learn".  At that point move the nk2 fader or button or knob you wish to control. I have done very little but it's cool to watch it work. By the way you can have multiple DMSXIS faders assigned to one nk2 fader just by repeating the "Learn" for each DMSXIS fader, A DMSXIS fader can be removed from the kn2 by using the right-click "Forget" option.

I also think I had to use the nk2 "editor" to change the way an nk2 button worked if I wanted that button to control the DMSXIS "Preset Manager" button at the top of the screen. I think I had to change the nk2 function from "momentary on-off" to something along the lines of "just change state" or something like that. Otherwise it sort of acts like clicking the button twice. But that was a while ago and I'd have to investigate what I did if you need to know.

About multiple nk2's: I don't know for sure but I can see where it might not work as DMSXIS asks you about which device should be controlling it. Always the chance that it might work. I can see where you're coming from as I wouldn't mind faking a large console with several of these nk2's.

About 0-127 versus 0-255: The 0-127 is simply mapped proportionally to the 0-255. That means you lose "fine control" but you still have the full range. In practice that should not be a big problem because even with multi-channel fixtures that have pre-programmed functions usually a wide range of values is used to control a specific action. I.E, they give you a big target of values to hit.

Hi ncn,

thanks for reply. I will connect two nk2 an my notebook and
test it. The reason why I write about nk2 is, that I don't know any console
with 16
faders (2 x nk2 has) that cost about 110 :-)

You can use a MIDI utility like MidiPIPE (OS X) or Bomes MIDI Translator (Windows) to merge the data from multiple controllers into a single output that DMXIS will accept.

Second question is: MIDI send values between 0-127 but DMX used values between 0 - 255 is also the fader in the DMXIS on 100% when the fader in the nk2 is 100% up?

CC messages & Notes are handled as described by ncn, the 0-127 is scaled up to 0-255 by DMXIS.

DMXIS also recognises MIDI NRPN messages, which are like a high resolution CC message. With NRPN, you get full control of the 0-255 DMX range. The NanoKontrol doesn't support NRPN, but others like the BCF2000 do.

Yowza, when did this happen??  Or was my reading comprehension faulty, and it always did this?  This is very good news, particularly for the software control type people (that is, me... :-D)

Thanks for all your continued hard work on this!

Hi Dave,

thanks for answering.
I
t si possible to use two NRPN at same time without to use a aditional software
like a Bomes MIDI Translator (Windows)? I mean each BCF2000 on a own USB Port?
