Multiple Midi Controllers

Hello .. I'm strongly strongly considering buying the DMXIS, I think
its an absolutely wonderful product that has most all the features I'm
looking for .. However ..

I'd like to use more than one Midi controller simultaneously to
control the lighting within DMXIS, specifically an M-Audio Axiom 25
and Korg NanoKey. Each of these works great in the demo version of the
DMXIS software upon testing, however only one controller can be
selected in DMXIS at a time. My next step was to install MidiPipe and
Midi PatchBay to combine the two signals of the keyboards into one
single Midi output ("Virtual Output"), but it seems every other
program recognizes the "virtual output" except for DMXIS. The only
Midi devices available in the DMXIS list seem to be confined to
"CoreMidi" devices (I'm using Mac OSX).

A physical Midi combiner box is not an option as only the USB ports on
the keyboards are available to use.

I'm really really hoping there is some kind of workaround for this,
DMXIS is perfectly suited for my needs, otherwise I'm afraid that i
wont be able to use DMXIS the way i envision.

Thanks so much in advance, any solutions/advice is much appreciated!

MidiPipe works perfectly for this task - I personally use it to merge MIDI data into DMXIS from a Novation X-Station and a Korg padKontrol. The simplest of MidiPipe setups will work - Two MIDI Ins (one for each source) followed by a MIDI Out (sending to virtual "MidiPipe Output 1"). Then I select the virtual MIDI device in DMXIS and all is well.

One thing to remember - you must start MidiPipe before starting DMXIS.

Thanks so much Dave for the super fast response! .. Yeah i opened and closed everything a few times and it came up perfectly, everything regarding the Midi works exactly as i had hoped.

One more question though, after running some tests with my setup in the demo mode of the software, MidiPipe and whatnot, it became clear to me that there is no option to actually link a midi key, or note, to a specific preset or bank, you must scroll up and down the list manually or click on the preset with the mouse. What i'm trying to do is actually have the keyboard function as a kind of library where pressing a key will quickly bring up a specific preset in a specific bank. After testing my setup i realized that this is a crucial component to making everything work for me.

Any thoughts or workarounds for this? As far as i can see this is the final hurdle for me, no other programs on the market come close to providing the ease and options that the DMXIS does and i'm really hoping, with your expert knowledge and suggestions, that we can clear this final roadblock!

Thanks so much again for the excellent service!

I accomplished this by creating midi mapping to "split" one note into 2 notes. For example when you press a key that sends data for a given note, have it mapped to both midi channel 15 value 0 and 16 value 0 to select bank 1 scene 1. This is kinda tedious to setup if you have a lot of keys but once you get the hang of it its not so bad.

Gotcha! .. I noticed that section in the manual but assumed that Channel 15 and 16 were used for the up/down selection buttons and didnt actually jump you to specific banks and scenes.

So the Midi channel 15 and 16 note data will simply change the bank and scene before sending the actual note data to the channel? i'm assuming thats what that does? .. Effectively allowing you to map any particular channel data and call it up anywhere in any bank with a single keystroke? .. Absolutely brilliant.

it became clear to me that there is no option to actually link a midi key, or note, to a specific preset or bank...

There are actually two ways to do this. Notes sent on MIDI channels 15 & 16 will directly select banks & preset. DMXIS also responds to standard MIDI bank & program change messages.
