Dave,

My two dogs have issues with that mental picture. Actually I laugh about it but my wife says they would be offended if they understood it.

I don't know what research you did that makes you think there's an issue of incompatibility here, but I think you have a great rig there and believe you'll have a lot of fun with it.  We've replied to your inquiry at sup...@enttec.com already (not very long ago) so maybe you should read that too.  Feel free to reply here since your problem that we spoke about there is not really one that support is the only avenue towards solving. (That is to say, you may get great advice here, but don't despair if everyone's a little quiet and you're not seeing anything very quickly.)

Hey guys.
Just bought the DMXIS to use with ableton.
Also bought 6 used Color Kinnetic Colorblast 12's and the power for them the PDS 375.

Anyone have any luck with this combo?

I am a total noob to this world but from the research I've done I think they won't work together.
Totally bumming and looking for a little advice here.

Did is screw the pooch?
Wouldn't be the first time.

Doesn't the PDS 375 provide DMX input? From what I understand you vitriol them via the power box connection.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies!!
Again I am new so thanks for your patience.

Yes indeed, the Colorblasts are only R,G,B units.
I feel confident that I understand and have configured the PDS 375 with the correct DMX addressing.
If you're familiar with the PDS 375 unit...
I've reset it many times and reset the address for the fixtures to 001 - 002 etc.
(mini-zap the unit and set the front panel switches to start with 1)
The problem I am having is the  PDS 375 doesn't seem to be getting DMX messages from the DMXIS.
The LED on the front of the PDS indicates no DMX present.

I don't have any other way to test the DMX output of the DMXIS but assume it's working.
5 pin output of DMXIS to 5 pin input of PDS 375 (brand new cable)
On the DMXIS box the greed LED next to the 5 pin cable is blinking.

When I move faders and or groups on faders in the DMXIS screen no change to the lights.
And still the LED blinks on the PDS 375 indicating that no DMX is getting to the PDS 375 to talk to the colorblasts.

Is there anyway to test the output of the DMXIS?
Or does the blinking LED on the DMXIS box indicate DMX info is transmitting?

I don't have a DMX terminator on the DMX output of the PDS 375.
The input is self terminating so I assumed it wasn't necessary.

PDS 375 and the lights all work in the stand-alone mode the PDS 375 offers so I know the lights work.
Thanks again for any troubleshooting advice.
I've been at it for hours and feel pretty stuck.
But also feel it's got to be one simple step I'm missing.

Dave,

The blinking is good so I think you're sending. Maybe there's some addressing issue here that is tripping you up. A technique you might have already figured out is to click on the first fader, then scroll to the right 15 times and shift-click on the last fader. That's selecting EVERYTHIING, 1-512. Now slide them up a little. No matter what the address is, this is pretty likely to make the lights respond, unless they're set to over 512 for some macabre reason  (not possible with most models, but I guess never say never.)

Thanks again,
I did try selecting all the channels last night, but did it again page by page this time to make sure I actually was moving all the faders.
No DMX activity reported to PDS 375.

Could I have incorrectly authorized the program....
Or is there a setting I'm unaware of?

Other variables:
The cable - I don't have another 5 pin but as I said it is a brand new Hosa
The PDS 375 - Could have a faulty DMX input, all other functions work as they should on the unit however.

Very much appreciate the assistance here.

My Computer is a MacBook Pro 2.4 Intel
I'm running DMXIS stand-alone (not a plug-in) fresh version via the  download after install the CD rom yesterday.

I work with Color Kinetics all the time. Can you link to your exact power unit?

Here's something I found that may help:

CB Mode
In CB Mode, the system will route DMX (as CK Data protocol) to each output based on
the selected DMX starting address. Each fixture is set as CK Light 1 (DMX 001, 002,
003). The PDS-375’s internal DMX Manager selectively routes DMX Data to each light
output so that each light receives only the data packets that it is supposed to respond to.
The effective DMX address of each fixture is a function of the starting address of the
PDS-375, combined with the number of the output that fixture is connected to.

With the DMX Address set to 001: Fixture 1 = DMX 1, 2 & 3, Fixture 2 = DMX 4, 5, & 6,
etc.
To put the unit into CB Mode, simply set the DMX Address switches to a desired
address other than 000. The unit can be set to any valid DMX address, however please
note that any starting address over 476 will disable some outputs.

Configuration / system setup for CB (DMX managed) mode
1 If necessary, Use the on-board Mini-Zapi (see Using the Mini-Zapi page 10) or Color
Kinetics Zapi™ topre-address all CB fixtures as DMX 001.
2 Plug up to 6 of those CB fixtures into outputs 1 – 6
3 Connect the System to a DMX source via the DMX Input and connect power
4 Set the system’s DMX Address to the desired starting address value AAA
5 The 6 connected CB fixtures will respond as follows:
CB Fixture # 1 = DMX address AAA, AAA+1, AAA+2
CB Fixture # 2 = DMX address AAA+3, AAA+4, AAA+5
CB Fixture # 3 = DMX address AAA+6, AAA+7, AAA+8, etc

So first plug in all of your fixtures, then hit the MiniZapi button that resets all the fixtures to CB Mode. Then turn the DMX dials to 0/0/1 so you have a starting address, plug in the cable and you should be set. Faders 1,2,3 should be red/blue/green, etc. 4-6 and onward.

We have a ton of these at a club I work at and although they're controlled via Ecue over ethernet they should work the same way.

Hey guys.
It's all working now!!!
I only had the manual for the non wireless version of the PDS 375
There is a switch in the rear of the unit to disable/ enable the wireless functionality.

I found the proper manual and unlocked the key!

From the wireless manual:

DMX Input Selection

The PDS-375-TRW is provided with a push/push “wink” switch on the back panel of the unit

next to the DMX connectors. Push the switch IN (GREEN) for wireless DMX input, and set

the switch back to OUT (BLACK) for wired DMX input.

Thanks for the suport.

Really appreciate the feedback.

Now off to program the show!!

No problem, glad you got it figured out. Color Kinetics are awesome but I wish they would fix their cumbersome addressing system. You bought some solid LED lights though, they run for years and very rarely break down.

I'm sure I'll be on this message board asking for a little advice before I get the show up and running though.

Thx again dudes.

Adam,

How comfortable are you with DPRO?  I have a project someone's doing in SF and they need a programmer to help out on it for a day or so. Can you give me your contact info to pass along if that's something you're comfortable doing?  Or if not you, John?
