Important News!

Some exciting news that Des Moines Science Fiction Society, LTD is proud to announce.

The Des Moines Science Fiction & Fantasy Society, INC has received charity non-profit status from the federal government
.

This allows us to start moving forward as DMSFS was in a hold pattern until we heard back. We will be discussing the changes that are coming and start the vote of dissolving the Des Moines Science Fiction Society, LTD to become the new entity at Winter SACC meeting on Saturday, December 29 at 4 pm at the Holiday Inn Northwest (Bennigan's Room). I will have the new by-laws etc of the new group at Winter SACC and we will explain how some of procedures and the basic core of the organization will be changing as the board learns how to run this new entity. If you would want the new groups by-laws sent to you please contact Mandi at in...@dmsfs.org.

Thank you all for your patience as we take these exciting new steps toward our goal of supporting our community with the love of literacy, science and the arts even more than before.

WINTER SACC

Hotel block price is closed but you can still get a room and they were having some deals a while ago. Just request to be placed on 5th floor with Winter SACC DMSFS.

Schedule - Here are the activities at Winter SACC!

We have an easy going schedule for those who want to do some workshops or planned events. Otherwise you are welcome to come and go as you want. There is a hospitality suite on 5th floor in the presidential suite with Bennigan's room for workshops and Salon A for gaming.

Saturday, December 29 - Starting at 10-ish am the two lobby rooms will be opened. We will see when we get the hospitality suite and may be setting up in the morning or around 3 pm in the afternoon. Depends when the room opens.

Saturday DemiCon Lite and Potluck Schedule

DMSFS Meeting - 4 pm in the Workshop room aka Bennigan's room.

Dinner - 6 pm in Hospitality Suite 5th Floor

Chrononaut Cotillion Ball: Surfing the Time Stream- 8 pm ( early tickets $25, at the door $30) There will be vendors this year. So bring a little extra cash. To learn more go to https://www.facebook.com/events/1903338473087086/

Sunday, December 30 - PROCLAIMED LAZY DAY! Wear your warm flannel PJs and robes to relax and enjoy the day. Around the clock gaming.

Sunday DemiCon Lite and Potluck Schedule Quilt Pattern

Breakfast - 9:30-ish am in the Hospitality Suite

Quilt in a Day - 10 am to 8 pm in Workshop Room. Lead by Nate Farmer

Lunch - noon-ish in the Hospitality Suite

Tai Chi - 2 pm in Gaming Room. Lead by Samantha Hackett

Dinner - 6-ish pm in Hospitality Suite

Filking - 6 pm in Salon B or C. We will find out once we are there.

Monday, December 31. Again around the clock gaming. Many people have to work today so not as many events but picking up by evening time.

New Year's Eve Movie Night - 7 pm & 9:15 pm. Room to be decided. Depends on closing time for the Bennigan's room. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Ready Player One

Annual Group Photo - 9 pm in the Lobby by the fireplace.

Ring in the New Year at Midnight

Monday, January 1 - We will be tearing down the hospitality suite in the morning but moving the snacks down stairs to Salon A to continue the party in the Workshop and Gaming rooms.

It's Craft Day - 10 am in the Workshop room

How to Edit a Sweded Movie Trailer - 2 pm in workshop room. Lead by Robert Uy

Probably wrapping up around 7 pm that night.
