Friday Meeting Important Information - Votes

Hello All from the President of DMSFS and DMSFFS,

We have a lot going on this Friday, January 11 meeting at the Valley Junction Activity center. 6:30 pm officers meeting, 7:00 pm start.

We have our final vote on finishing the dissolving process of the Des Moines Science Fiction Society, LTD. If you want a proxy, please contact me at ma...@dmsfs.org by Thursday, January 10 by 9 pm evening. Proxy due back 5 pm on Friday, January 11th.

DMSFFS will start our nominations for the New Board for the Des Moines Science Fiction & Fantasy Society, INC. Then the second round of nominations will be January 25th. The vote will be taken on February 8. The new board will take over at the official board meeting to be held on February 16.

The process will be the same until after final vote. By the new bylaws then the committee aka members choices/vote of the members will be presented to the current board and they will ratify the new board members. (Charity non-profits boards usually make all the decisions but we were able to work it so members still have a voice.)

For those interested in criteria for board officers, here are a few of the new items that are different.

Must be members of the organization (understand it is a new organization so member of DMSFS)

Will hold office for two years (Though first time the two board members who will be holding the President and Secretary rolls will be one year so we can stagger board officers spaces)

Board members must be at the mandatory board meeting each year. This year is on February 16 - to be after the DemiCon Department Head Meeting. Location to be decided.

Board members will fulfill specific officers positions as they serve

We are learning as we go but the transitional boards roll is almost done with the starting of the new organization as we step into the new organization so it is time to move forward with the first two year board. We are still working out what the program will be. More to come. 

Reminder - DemiCon’s next department head meeting is this Saturday, January 12 from 1 to 4 pm at DMACC Urban Campus. Building 1. Same room 126.
