The Foolish Band (Tamevate Kapelye in Yiddish) may all be fools for
the love of a good bulgar, but that doesn’t mean they don’t take their
music seriously! First performing as the critically acclaimed stage
band from the National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene’s production of
Gimpel Tam in 2008, the band has in subsequent performances added to
their repertoire, playing fresh, lively, soulful music influenced by
genres as wide ranging as Bollywood music and jazz, all powered by
heart-stopping, foot-stomping, unforgettable Eastern European and
klezmer rhythms.
The Foolish Band performs together with Daniella Rabbani, a New York
based actress, singer, and voice over artist, a true rising star of
music and theater.
The new program set up by the Foolish Band and Daniella Rabbani
includes Yiddish favorites and rare songs from Belarus and Lithuania
introduced and given a new breath by the musicologist, composer,
pianist, and clarinetist Dmitri Slepovitch.
