I was wondering if anyone is currently running a SD508 AC compressor.  Suprisingly my 31 year old SD510 is still pumping cold air.  Since it is so old, I decided to pickup a spare AC compressor (SD508) for me and Farrar's trip to Lexington, NC just in case my 31 year old compressor decides to go out.  I got the new one on eBay for $124 including shipping.

Does anyone know if the SD508 works better or worse than the SD510?  I'm tempted to swap it out before the trip if it is any better than the old one.  Sometime tells me the new one will be a little less powerful though.  Any thoughts?

"Proudly banned from DMCTalk" -- what happened to your roving random ISP's?

SD508 is slightly less powerful than the SD510, but it is a suitable replacement (same number of chambers, so the original back will transfer OK). Just stay away from the 7 chamber compressors. Count the number of bolt heads on the back -- 5 chamber compressors have 5 bolts, 7 chamber compressors have 7 bolts. Also stay away from Made in China knockoffs, easily identified by the word "Sanden" stamped into the housing rather than a proper manufacturer's sticker.

A slightly less powerful compressor just means the low pressure switch will cycle on/off slightly less frequently. Evaporation of freon itself will be identical.

Bill.
